Interview with Texans running back Ben Tate

This summer, I’ve been given the opportunity to write a piece for What’s Up? Annapolis Magazine to profile local athletes from Anne Arundel County (my home county) and Maryland’s Eastern Shore who have made it to the professional level.

I’ve been trying to kick it into second gear and actually talk to some of these players.

Fortunately, some have been receptive, including Houston Texans running back Ben Tate, who grew up on the Eastern Shore.

I had the chance to talk to him on Thursday. Most of the conversation centered around his time growing up in Salisbury and going to school in Berlin, Md. and how it helped him get to where he’s at now.

Griffin Just Has ‘It’

Did you catch the nice blog on NFL.com about Robert Griffin III shooting a Subway commercial in Texas?

I joke, but I’m just not really sure why the piece led with that tidbit, when the title and crux of an otherwise good piece, is that a bunch of Redskins are heading down to Texas for a friendly game of pass and catch with their rookie quarterback.

Brandon Banks: From Kansas State to Redskins Park, But What’s Next?

I first saw Banks in a game between Nebraska and Kansas State. It was November 15, 2008. In That game Banks returned a kick 98 yards for a TD. That kickoff return tied for the fifth-longest in school history. Oddly enough, on the other side of the ball Nebraska’s Niles Paul was busy garnering his own attention as a wide receiver and special teams player. He returned 2 kicks for 38 yards in that game as well as recovered a Deon Murphy fumbled punt which led to a Nebraska TD. Oh yeah, and Roy Helu rushed for 72 yards and 2 touchdowns.

RGIII Wallpaper

When Robert Griffin III was drafted in April, I needed to come up with something different for my avatar/twitcon. So I came up with doing a Close Encounters of the Third Kind avi.

Many people asked me if I was going to be doing up a wallpaper in the same style, so it’s finally here!!

Mike Shanahan says hit was most jarring accident of his career By Mark Maske – Washington Post

Shanahan’s toughness is not questioned. As a college quarterback at Eastern Illinois he stayed on the field in a spring game after a hit that shoved his kidney behind his spine and split it open. Shanahan passed out and his heart stopped beating for a half minute. He was given last rites. He was unconscious for five days and his playing career was ended by the blow.
