The Washington Redskins officially introduced Jay Gruden as the franchise’s 28th head coach Thursday.
Gruden answered questions for about 20 minutes in front of a packed media room at Redskins Park in Ashburn, Va.
With two interviews already in the books and two more occurring this weekend, the Redskins head coaching search 2014 continues to cast a wide net. Washington is gathering information on an extensive range of candidates. The Redskins reportedly interviewed Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell on Tuesday. The team confirmed it had interviewed Dallas Cowboys special teams coach Rich Bisaccia Friday. He has ties to Redskins general manager Bruce Allen from their time together in Tampa Bay. Washington is also reportedly interviewing Carolina Panthers defensive coordinator Sean McDermott in Charlotte Saturday.

Exactly one year after leading the Redskins to their first NFC East title in 13 years, head coach Mike Shanahan was fired following a deflating 3-13 season.
Here is a list of the coaching staff that were let go by the Redskins today:
* Executive Vice President/Head Coach – Mike Shanahan
* Offensive coordinator – Kyle Shanahan
* Special teams – Keith Burns
* Quarterbacks – Matt LaFleur
* Linebackers – Bob Slowik
* Wide receivers – Mike McDaniel
* Advance scout – Larry Coyer
* Offensive quality control – Richmond Flowers
* Defensive assistant – Bobby Slowik

The moniker has become an epithet in Redskins nation.
Well… it is truly an ill wind that blows no good. It’s slowly looking more and more like Shanahan and Company have found the silver lining.
The last five games the Washington Redskins have played have been some of the most difficult to watch football that I can remember seeing in recent history. After each game I am left thinking, well, it can’t get worse than that. However that debacle that the team displayed yesterday was disgusting, embarrassing, and just plain shameful. Shame on the players, shame on Mike Shanahan, shame on the Redskins’ organization.
It was a big win for the Redskins on Sunday over the Charger – they kept pace with the rest of the NFC East. Here is a look at some of the more interesting statistics and numbers from Washington’s thrilling 30-24 overtime victory:
Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos rolled all over the Washington Redskins in the second half with 38 unanswered points, en route to a 45-21 destruction at Mile High Stadium. Last week the Redskins offense showed signs of coming around against the Chicago Bears, but on Sunday against the Broncos, they appeared to have hibernated. Or maybe they were just stymied from the top down.
Enter offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan. Why, oh why, do people try to put square pegs in round holes? This isn’t the first time that Redskin fans have been left scratching their heads as to what in the aqua blue hell was going on in Das Wunderkind’s brain – but it’s the first time for a while, that one might scratch hard enough to draw blood. I did anyway, and I may just have to remove the Redskins from my NFL football betting list if their offense continues to be completely paralyzed by their coordinator’s need to treat it like a toy. It’s a costly betting oversight most weeks.
