UDFA Feeding Frenzy Begins
With the NFL lockout ending yesterday, football fans everywhere celebrated and flocked to Message Boards, Blogs, Facebook and Twitter to express their feelings on the situation. Information and misinformation was flying fast and furious. You had to have your head on a swivel, and you had to be very careful about determining what was truly news, as opposed to just hype or conjecture.
NFL teams were granted permission to start football operations, and despite the fact that they can’t sign anyone until Friday, teams are allowed to make hand shake deals with this year’s crop of Undrafted Free Agents. Rumors swirled all night on the world wide web, and it appears as though at least three college players agreed in principle to Redskin contracts. Keep in mind that none of the transactions can be completed until the end of the week, so players can change their minds.
Cofield To Skins
On the opening evening of 2011 free agency, the Redskins addressed arguably their biggest roster hole, signing defensive tackle Barry Cofield away from the division rival New York Giants. The 27-year-old Cofield is coming off of his most productive season, where he registered a career-high 54 tackles and four sacks for New York. The Giants … Read more
THN Toon – Matt Terl
If you hadn’t heard, Matt Terl from the Official Redskins Blog has been relieved of his duties.
I don’t profess to have any knowledge of what went on. I know that I liked the blog, and so did a lot of other die hard Redskins fans. You’d think that’s what the orgnization would be hoping for when they started with it three years ago. All of that aside, it has nothing to do with what irks me most about the move.
Business is About To Pick Up
It appears that the NFL Lockout is over. At almost 4:00am this morning, Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer tweeted that ownership and the NFLPA had finally come to an agreement on a new Collective Bargaining Agreement. While almost 2000 NFL players still have to vote on the pact, which they will do shortly after coming together … Read more
My Top 10 Free Agent Targets
It looks like we may be starting football pretty soon, so it seemed prudent to knock out what I think are 10 great free agents for the Washington Redskins to target.
1. Aubrayo Franklin – NT – The 3-4 defense relies on a true nose tackle, and Franklin is the best available in free agency. He won’t come cheap which is a concern for any over 30 lineman, but his ability to free up linebackers Brian Orakpo and rookie Ryan Kerrigan, make adding him a must. The Redskins will have money to spend, and despite needing many pieces, settling for less than Franklin, will be just that, settling.
Lockout End Nears Closer
It’s easy to understand NFL fans being gun shy after Thursday’s fiasco, and I begged of you not to buy into the hype, but it looks like the league and the NFLPA made another leap forward today. Apparently, a tentative agreement may have been reached.
The Pending CBA Proposed Agreement
Today, a 25-page PDF summary pending agreement NFLPA reviewed with player reps, pre-owners `final’ document was released by Chris Mortnsen via @mortreport on Twitter.
It is very difficult to read in it’s PDF form, so I have transcribed it in it’s entirety for your viewing pleasure.
Don’t Buy Into The Hype
Fellow Redskin fans and armchair quarterbacks – be very careful with the judgments that ye shall pass in the next day or so.
We all sit and wait with bated breath, for an agreement to be reached, and for the NFL lockout to end. As fans, we are starting to feel that compulsion swell inside of us, and we feel our burgundy and gold blood coarsing through our veins. Emotions heightened, it would be easy for us to jump to conclusions, or to make rash judgments.
Ever Feel Like You’ve Been Cheated?
Today Matt Teri posted a copy of the letter that Redskin fans are receiving about the recent stadium renovations, and how it pertains to the season tickets waiting list. If you haven’t already seen it, you can check it out here.
Ever seen the movie Sid and Nancy? There’s a scene in it where Johnny Rotten is sick of Sid’s crap and looks at the crowd and says, “Ever feel like you’ve been cheated?”
