Anthony Sweat was killed in a shooting on Tuesday evening in Henrico County. He was the 27-year-old brother of Washington defensive end Montez Sweat.
The shooting occurred just after 4pm in the 7600 block of Wistar Village Drive – a busy apartment complex.
Sweat was the lone victim in the shooting, and EMS pronounced him dead on the scene.
The Henrico Police said that despite being from Stone Mountain, Georgia, he had ties to the area.
According to a CBS 6 report, it was the 25th homicide in the county for 2021. There were only 15 in 2020.
Understandably, Montez Sweat was not at practice on Wednesday.
Ron Rivera started his Wednesday media session by offering his condolences to Sweat and his family.
“It is rough and our thoughts and prayers are with the families.”
“We try to make sure that the players understand that we’re here for them,” Rivera said. “We do have a team psychologist and she’s available, as well as not just myself but position coaches, coordinators and Malcolm Blacken, who is our director of player development. We’re there for them.”
