2010 Hognostications Week 2

What a crazy first week for the 2010 NFL season.  Not many would have guessed that Houston and Kansas City would dominate their games against their tough opponents.  Congratulations to KazooSkinsFan for winning our hognostications last week with an impressive 13-3 record.  He edged out our reigning champion TeeterSalad due to the tie breaker.  Rounding out the top four were TeeterSalad 13-3, RIC and Countertrey at 12-4.

Redskins Held to Victory over Cowboys

I’ve never been a big fan of the officials. I’ve never really made that a secret. When they called unnecessary roughness on London Fletcher, I was fit to be tied. Redskins’ fans are all too familiar with the refs determining the outcome of games, but it’s a strange feeling when the call goes our way.

A guy I work with told me he was going to root against the Redskins last week. He’s not a Cowboys fan, he just hates the Redskins. He told me about how he, and a bunch of his friends who are Cowboys fans, were going to go out to a bar just so they could talk smack to Redskins fans when they lost.

Washington Redskins helmet

Okay, so the Ravens game was everything the Bills game wasn’t; it was ugly. That being said, it wasn’t without it’s glimmers of hope. For example, Donovan McNabb’s completion percentage may have been dismal, and at times he looked like he was off target (well, was off target) but when he did connect it was for first down yardage. He completed 11 passes for 206 yards.

Can Grossman be for Real?

Grossman’s recent performance in his pre-season debut with the Redskins got me to thinkin’; can this guy really be better than I thought? Yeah sure it’s a preseason game, but I expected to see fumbled handoffs, interceptions and stalled drives the moment McNabb took his pads off. I think we all felt the same thing; Buffalo must be really bad if they can make Rex Grossman look like our starter.

It’s easy to have doubts about the abilities of Rex Grossman even though he’s played in a Super Bowl. Everyone knows that Grossman made his way into that Super Bowl on the backs of his defense. When you think about Grossman you see a QB rating of 59.7 since he achieved that rating twice in his career with the Bears.

Expectations Too High?

So, it’s not unusual for there to be high optimism for Redskins fans during the offseason. This one feels real though. With Cerrato, Zorn and Campbell gone, replaced by Allen, Shanahan and McNabb it’s easy to see why Redskins fans are excited.

It doesn’t help matters much that Shanahan has said he expects to “win now.”
