Redskins Start with Grossman

We all know that Rex Grossman has been to the Super Bowl, and conventional wisdom says he went on the backs of his defense. We consider it the same as the 2003 Ravens who won the Super Bowl with Trent Dilfer who only started the last half of the season.

 

Clearly, Baltimore won the Super Bowl in spite of their quarterbacks that year.

 

Maybe we judge Grossman too harshly. The 2006 Bears were 2nd in the league in scoring that year putting up 427 points. I’m not sure we can say that Chicago made it on defense alone like Baltimore did.

The Washington Redskins will square off against the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday night at FedEx Field. The third preseason game is often a very telling tale of what fans can expect to see in Week 1 of the regular season, but will that be true in 2011? RB Davis Skips Practice

If you haven’t already heard, Redskins roster hopeful James Davis was a no-show at practice today, and his whereabouts are unknown. Davis fought his way on to the Redskins active roster in 2010, and was going to have to do the same again in 2011. Perhaps Davis thought he was fighting a losing battle with two rookie running backs, Roy Helu and Evan Royster, as well as recently imported Tim Hightower all coming in to vie for time in the backfield.

Graham Cut – A Kicker’s Lament

As Redskins Nation runs rampant with relief over the cutting of Shayne Graham after just a one game tryout, it seemed prudent to look at the life of a kicker, and the obstacles that stand before them.

Shayne Graham stunk on Friday night. There isn’t any ifs, ands, or buts about it, the guy mailed in a groaner. For his efforts, he was immediately let go by the Washington Redskins. The third most accurate kicker in NFL history, got a ONE game tryout. So goes the life of an NFL kicker. It doesn’t matter what you’ve ever done, only what you’ve done lately. Further to that, while every other positional battle on the team likely gets the good grace of accepting that cohesiveness may play a role in their development, a kicker apparently does not. Well, Shayne Graham certainly did not in this instance.

Redskins v. Steelers: Helped and Hurt

The Washington Redskins had an impressive debut with their 16-7 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Friday night. Sure it’s only the preseason, but not only did the Redskins earn the win, there were plenty of performances to be encouraged by.

Basically preseason games boil down to one important, and simple concept – evaluation. So here’s my look at the guys who helped themselves, and the guys that may have hurt themselves.

And So It Begins… Again

Yes it’s that time of year again, thankfully, the 2011 NFL Preseason kicks off this evening at 8pm. Fans have been locked in cages and unfed for 6 months, devoid of all football nourishment until but a few weeks ago. We are hungry. We are ravenous. Our football appetites need to be quenched. It begins tonight – but what about that adage that preseason games are for the most part – vanilla and useless?
