Auld Lang RG3

It’s New Year’s Eve tonight, and like most Redskins fans, I’ll be partying 2012 out, and bringing in 2013 as a fan of the NFC East Division Champs.

Normally on this day, it’s traditional to sing Auld Lang Syne; but I thought given the landscape in Washington these days – maybe we should change the words a bit.

Bucs Error the 'Skins Gain

I was baffled… still am… by the firing of Raheem Morris by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This is a man who deserved some patience on the part of ownership. This decision will come back to haunt them, some day. He is an extremely competent football mind, whom, I’m confident, will win his share of Super Bowls as a head coach somewhere, some day.

Weisman Back Online

The Washington Redskins former Editorial Director of Media, Larry Weisman, has a new website!

Some of us sports fans have been reading Larry’s work for what feels like most of our lives. Larry worked for USA Today for 25+ years, and for this Canadian back then, USA Today was easily the creme de la creme of the football news I could get regularly. So wether an article was about the Redskins or not, I was going to read it. I cut my football teeth in the pages of early 80’s USA Todays.

Playoffs? Playoffs.

Any idea how much I relish the very IDEA of getting to write a ‘playoff picture’ for my Washington Redskins? Yet here we are – four weeks to go – and not a lot of math to be done to forge the Redskins path to the playoffs. Let’s take a look: NFC East Redskins (6-6) … Read more

RGIII Everywhere

RGIII is everywhere.

NFL.com is running a story titled, “RG3 and Redskins top NFL watchability power rankings.” It seems strange, considering that in the actual content of the article itself, the only mention of Griffin is, “Quarterbacks Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III make mediocre squads fascinating. I want to be there from the beginning with their careers.”

It seems almost gratuitous to make the Redskins and Griffin the subject of the story’s title, when other than Washington being in a list of “Must Watch” teams, the only other mention of them is to call them a “mediocre squad.”

Redskins ‘Final’ Roster

The Washington Redskins, and all other NFL teams, had until 9 pm last night to name their 53-man roster. As of 11pm, the Redskins had still only named 52 players. Obviously they have a certain player or position in mind, so they left a spot open, rather than have to juggle again later when that aforementioned player is acquired.

So I guess it isn’t a ‘final’ roster, but here’s who made it:

Tonight’s Top 5 Watch List

Everybody likes to watch different elements in the preseason. Here are the top 5 guys that I’ll have my eye on tonight:

RGIII

Yeah, yeah, yeah. He won’t play much… it might be vanilla… he might hand the ball off half the time or more. Does any of that really matter?

Absolutely not. A new era begins for Washington tonight. Regardless of the lack of importance of the performance or the results, don’t try to tell me that Robert Griffin III isn’t the numero uno thing to watch tonight.

I’ll be watching him even when he’s done playing and just standing on the sidelines. So will you.

Cheap Seats: It’s getting closer…

It’s getting closer with every breath we take.  With every article we read, or interview we hear.  Every day it grows stronger in more than thirty locations around the nation.  It’s almost palpable.  Like a living breathing entity that needs time to grow and take shape, it has times of frustration and times of excitement, albeit in small amounts.  To some, it’s like the Loch Ness Monster in that it isn’t even a real thing.  To others, it’s as real as life itself.

Football season.
