Redskins Need Win Against The Cowboys To Stay in the Playoff Hunt

The mere mention of playoffs may have many of you imagining the infamous clip of Jim Mora scornfully mocking the press with, “What’s that? Ah – Playoffs? Don’t talk about – playoffs? You kidding me? Playoffs? I just hope we can win a game!” After all, Mora’s Colts were 4-6 at the time and not in that dissimilar a position to the (5-6) Washington Redskins; or their opponents, the (5-6) Dallas Cowboys for that matter. Regardless of the improbability, that is still the scenario for the two beleaguered teams as they head into this week’s Thursday Night matchup. In the Redskins odds for the next game, bookmakers have Washington favored ever so slightly. A win for either team will keep them mathematically in line for a Wild Card spot, while a loss would all but drive the final nail into the coffin.

That kind of make-or-break situation will only add to the already tense rivalry between the two teams. Two disenchanted franchises that come into the game… disappointed.

SNAFU: Redskins Make Some Injury Decisions – DeAngelo Hall Activated

The Redskins released some injury and roster news today, as usual, most of it no good.

As of now, Shawn Lauvao (stinger), Matt Ioannidis (hand), and tight ends Jordan Reed (hamstring) and Niles Paul (concussion) are all officially out for the Seahawks matchup. None of those four are that surprising, but what was surprising was that after finally stirring a bit last week against Dallas, Jamison Crowder was downgraded to out with his hamstring injury.

With five guys on the active roster out, that means that only two of the players currently listed as doubtful, questionable or probable can sit. The rest will have to dress to have the full 47-man roster.

The Redskins Injury Situation Has Officially Reached A Sublime State

Do you ever remember an instance where an NFL team couldn’t field a roster? That is exactly the situation that the WRedskins currently find themselves in, coming off a tough loss to the Cowboys this past weekend. Obviously the state of the roster drastically affects the Washington Redskins betting odds this week, and Jay Gruden added a few more critical names to the Redskins unavailable list on Monday at his press conference.

Jordan Reed (hamstring) was the most “marquee” player added to the laundry list of injuries this week, along with fellow tight end Niles Paul who is under the NFL’s concussion protocol after a scary helmet-to-helmet collision against Dallas. Promising defensive lineman Matt Ioannidis will undergo surgery to his hand and definitely will not be available for this week’s matchup with the Seattle Seahawks.

There are 53 players on an NFL roster – each week, the team is allowed to activate 47 of them. Right now, 13 of those 53 Redskins players are injured. The team is literally in danger of not being able to field a full football squad this week against Seattle. And that 13 doesn’t include Morgan Moses somehow, who is playing on two sprained knees.

Decimated Redskins Roster to Face Surging Rival Cowboys

When a coach has to change a Wednesday practice to a walk through in an already short week, you know that the injuries have officially piled to the ceiling. That’s exactly what Jay Gruden did yesterday, on the heels of seven MORE Redskins being hurt in the 34-24 loss to the Eagles on Monday night. The multitude of injuries have obviously caused a change in the betting odds for the Redskins games, and they pose a challenge that will frankly be hard to account for this week against Dallas.

As if losing convincingly to Philadelphia and losing most hope of winning the NFC East division this year wasn’t enough, Washington was once again devastated by injuries over the course of the game for the third game in a row. This week, it was the offensive line that took it on the chin.

Redskins Free Agency Tracker – March 13th

The Redskins opened up the first day with barely a peep. The team retained punter Sav Rocca and defensive lineman Kedric Golston. It was also revealed through Twitter that the One Man Gang, Lorenzo Alexander, would be signing with a new team to be determined.

As the more expensive free agents are taken off the market, the Redskins should get more active with scouting affordable B and C level talent.

Ten Game Thoughts: Vikings

It was another roller coaster ride for Redskins Nation on Sunday, as the Redskins struggled early, and then struggled to put the Vikings away after dominating through most of the middle of the game. In the end, Robert Griffin III’s two rushing touchdowns, proved more than Minnesota could handle, and allowed Washington to come away a 38-26 victory – their first home win in nine tries. The loss ended a three game winning streak for the Vikings, and dropped them to 4-2 on the season.

How the option helps the Redskins

I was rewatching some of Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Vikings and wanted to make a quick note of how the misdirection from the triple option can fool opposing defenses.

This play began with 6:06 left to play in the first half against a very solid Minnesota defense.

Clearly we all know Robert Griffin III is the straw that stirs the Redskins’ drink. Here is visual evidence that shows how his amazing athletic ability helps fool one of the better defenses in the league. This is what happens when you have the right pieces involved along with the ability to mislead based off of that talent.
