Here are the “highlights in tweets”:
Robert Griffin III was just named named 2011 Big 12 Sportsperson of the Year. The award is given to the student athlete that “displays an extraordinary degree of sportsmanship and/or community service during the academic year.”
On top of being the first Heisman Trophy winner in Baylor history, Griffin has been setting the standard off the field for even longer. According to the Big 12’s Press Release about the awards, on top of being an ambassador for the entire school, Griffin, “was also a Special Olympics volunteer and served at Friends for Life, a daycare for mentally-challenged individuals. He has also volunteer and spoke at many local schools. Other community service projects include Santa’s Workshop, Food for Families and greeting new students for the Baylor admissions office during the annual on-campus celebration of Dia del Oso.”
It was announced today that the Washington Redskins Training Camp festivities are making the move from Ashburn, Virginia to Richmond, Virginia in 2013. Redskins General Manager Bruce Allen released the following written statement: “We are very pleased to continue our relationship with the Commonwealth of Virginia that my father established 41 years ago.” “We are … Read more
So word today, is that the Redskins have interest in Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Aqib Talib. Obviously Raheem Morris knows as well as anyone the skill set that Talib brings to the position, but surely he also knows the baggage. Rumor has it that the Bucs are looking for a late round draft pick.
Thursday’s Redskins’ OTA’s were open to the media, so here are a collection of articles to help you sort through all of the ‘exciting’ action:
Mike Shanahan says hit was most jarring accident of his career By Mark Maske – Washington Post
“Shanahanâs toughness is not questioned. As a college quarterback at Eastern Illinois he stayed on the field in a spring game after a hit that shoved his kidney behind his spine and split it open. Shanahan passed out and his heart stopped beating for a half minute. He was given last rites. He was unconscious for five days and his playing career was ended by the blow.“
There is a good article at the official Detroit Lions website, outlining some of the rule changes coming out of the league meetings that are going on in Atlanta. While the article itself deals more with the fact that the owners voted to move the trade deadline back a couple of weeks (after week 6, to after week 8), I thought this rule amendment was much more significant.
Looks like all those Redskins fans that were counting on an extra eighteen million in cap next year, are going to have to go suck on a great big lemon. Jeff Darlington of NFL.com tweeted today that the arbitrator granted the NFL’s motion to dismiss the challenge filed by Redskins & Cowboys on the salary cap situation.

With the opening of the offseason training activities (OTAs) on Monday, the Redskins coaching staff got their first look at the entire 90-man roster at once*, and in doing so, began the arduous process of paring that 90 down to 53. One of the guys that surprisingly seems to be on some people’s bubble, is returning stalwart tight end Chris Cooley.
Cooley was plagued with injuries from the start last year, and ended up on the injured reserve list for the second time in three years. That has many questioning his durability, and his ability to return to the form that he once showed. I don’t have a problem with people questioning those things, it’s those that are indignant that he can’t possibly be of any use to the Redskins whatsoever, that have me baffled.
Well Redskin fans, you know you’ve landed at least a bonafide potential superstar franchise quarterback, when he’s going to be on the Tonight Show before he’s ever played a down of NFL football.
Tonight’s show will feature Robert Griffin III and Hugh Laurie.
Tim Hightower tweeted late Sunday night that he had re-signed with the Redskins. Well actually, he tweeted this:
I'm baaaaaaaack pic.twitter.com/9qG4TDTB

The Redskins picked up Hightower last season in a trade with the Arizona Cardinals that saw a sixth-round pick and defensive end Vonnie Holliday, go the other way.
