The Redskins made a couple of depth moves today, signing offensive tackle James Lee, and re-signing defensive lineman Kedric Golston.
Golston has been with the Redskins his entire six-year NFL career, and Washington knows exactly what they’re getting – a solid contributor that is versatile enough to back-up anywhere along the defensive front. He had 1.5 sacks in nine games last season before being put on injured reserve.
If you’re a sports fan and you’ve ever tuned into the corporate big wheel that is ESPN, you’ve likely seen a face or two that just make you go, “Hmmmm.”
For me, that joker is Skip Bayless. I try not to be venomous about it, because it isn’t Skippy’s fault that he works for an employer that obviously encourages him to be as big a douchebag as is humanly possible. If Skippy wasn’t doing exactly what was expected of him, he’d be out in the cold. Instead – he’s front and center.
Well today’s STHU award goes to none other than the once blind, but now can see, Carlos Rogers.
He’s the latest former Redskin to chime in about a ‘bounty system’ during Gregg Williams’ time in Washington.
Every time I read something new that Donovan McNabb has said, a little vein in my forehead protrudes and I start to get this little headache.
I want to first say that when the Redskins brought Donovan McNabb to the team in April of 2010, I was initially kind of excited. After all, sure he was getting a little long in the tooth, but I had watched him beat up my team twice a year for most of the last decade.
We all know how that worked out. The result was me actually being marginally more excited when he left last summer, than when he arrived. I’m sure there are many in Redskins Nation that would share a fairly common experience with #5.

New Nike Uniforms
The Nike unveiling yesterday left a lot of people feeling unfulfilled. Seriously? When the veil was finally lifted, the Redskins uniform that was revealed was basically identical to the Reebok version. There are a couple of minor differences like the collar, the numbers on the sleeve and the sleeve cuts themselves. Reactions were mixed to say the least, ranging from, “Thank god we didn’t change anything,” to “Why can’t we have all gold uniforms with burgundy polka-dots?”
People tell me not to ‘make anything out of’ Robert Griffin III not doing any private follow-up workouts for teams.
Why not?
I don’t care who Griffin turns down for private workouts, there are only two teams in the running – the Washington Redskins and the Indianapolis Colts. The Redskins have stated that they didn’t need a private workout anyway, and had already seen everything they needed to see. Smart.
In honor of the three-headed monster that were kind enough to put together the whole concept of hitting the Washington Redskins with a $36 Million cap panalty and the Dallas Cowboys with a $10 Million penalty – I wanted to pay visual homage to this fair and impartial trio.
Of course on the left we have Roger Goodell – the Commish – the brainchild so to speak. I admit that due to many recent events, it may seem difficult to put ‘brain’ and ‘Roger Goodell’ in the same sentence, but he is the figurehead of this whole mess.
Listening to former Redskins pretend quarterback Donovan McNabb cry like a nine-year old girl with a scuffed knee, is really too rich for words. But it made me think back on a little Redskins anecdote…
… Back in 2003, I was fortunate enough to attend a fan festival put on by Ken Harvey. It was a great day for all involved – access to legendary former Redskins, games to play, inspirational speeches, coaching instruction and much, much more. It was a fantastic day that I still remember like it was yesterday.
There is plenty going on at the NFL Owner’s meetings in Palm Beach, Florida right now – what with the cap scandal, some rule changes, and the general hubbaloo of the meetings – a very important happening could have been completely missed, were it not for the crack reporting of THN’s own Lennie Pigsquarelli.
He was on scene today to capture what we believe to be the very first ever photograph of the ever-elusive, and thought-to-be-extinct, Mara Weasel. The Long Islandus Mustela was believed to have died out around 1694, when a witch turned them all into snivelling little toads, but apparently the spell could not last forever. This photograph is proof of ecologists worst fear, that not only is the Long Islandus Mustela still in existence, but able to migrate south for the winter.
There isn’t a lot going on in Redskins Nation right now, at least not much that wasn’t going on for the last week anyway. Here are a few non-updates:
London Fletcher – Zip. Zilch. Nada. Donut. So stop asking me. There isn’t any new news, but frankly, every day that Fletcher is a free agent, oddly, both sides gain leverage. London gains leverage because with Curtis Lofton going to the Saints, there really aren’t a lot of options left in free agency at inside linebacker. The Redskins gain leverage because there obviously aren’t a lot of other teams throwing money at Fletcher, or he may have already departed. Unfortunately that means that the two may have moved into a stalemate. It’s easy to say, “Give him more money,” but the Redskins have little to spare after the cap penalty. Something creative needs to be done cap-wise because with what will likely be a fairly short-term deal of 2 or 3 years, there isn’t any time to pro-rate out bonus money.
