There isn’t a lot going on in Redskins Nation right now, at least not much that wasn’t going on for the last week anyway. Here are a few non-updates:

London Fletcher – Zip. Zilch. Nada. Donut. So stop asking me. There isn’t any new news, but frankly, every day that Fletcher is a free agent, oddly, both sides gain leverage. London gains leverage because with Curtis Lofton going to the Saints, there really aren’t a lot of options left in free agency at inside linebacker. The Redskins gain leverage because there obviously aren’t a lot of other teams throwing money at Fletcher, or he may have already departed. Unfortunately that means that the two may have moved into a stalemate. It’s easy to say, “Give him more money,” but the Redskins have little to spare after the cap penalty. Something creative needs to be done cap-wise because with what will likely be a fairly short-term deal of 2 or 3 years, there isn’t any time to pro-rate out bonus money. Well as of 8pm this evening, the Washington Redskins are just one month away from the 2012 NFL Draft – and if all goes right – be selecting quarterback Robert Griffin III out of Baylor University.

Yeah, yeah, yeah – the Colts could still ‘shock the world’ and select RGIII, but it’s not actually very likely.

Cowboy Jeff Strikes Again: “Fined”

Like any good Redskins fan – I hate everything about the Dallas Cowboys – their stupid team, their stupid owner, their stupid colors, their stupid quarterback, their stupid fans – but I have managed to find one decent thing about the Cowboys other than their misery, and that’s Cowboy Jeff.

Every now and again, my twiend Cowboy Jeff puts together a parody song that is either applicable to the Redskins, or just so sardonic, that any Redskin fan will appreciate the Cowboy content.

Grossman Returning

With the incredibly awesome news that the Washington Redskins have been penalized $36 Million in cap space for circumventing a cap that didn’t exist, I felt compelled, nay, obligated to try and come up with something to cheer up Redskins Nation.

Today during the course of my typical loving Twitter personna, I bad-mouthed resident NFL Network idiot Jason LaCanfora. You remember him? he used to act like a reporter sometimes for the Washington Post.

Free Agency can be exciting, and it can be hectic, but it isn’t all peaces and cream. The Redskins announced today that they have released their longest tenured player – Big Mike Sellers.

The NFL is a brutal business.

A veteran of 12 NFL seasons, Sellers has been with the Redskins since 2004 in his second stint with the team, but he was also with Washington from 1998-2000. The 36-year old fullback has obviously seen his on-field contributions wane over the last couple of seasons, but seemed to focus that unused energy into being a team leader, and even into moulding his replacement in youngster Darrel Young. It says a lot about a guy when he’s willing to mentor the man that is taking his job.

In case you missed it yesterday Redskins fans, General Manager Bruce Allen held a press conference to fill in some blanks about the blockbuster trade between the Washington Redskins and the St. Louis Rams.

A lot was said and you can check it all out here, but one of the most important things said was: “Clearly we fell in love with two players,” Allen offered. “We believe one of those players will be a great Redskin.”

Last night the Washington Redskins put out a second mortgage on their house, and with the proceeds, they are going to go out and buy a shiny new toy on April 26th at the NFL Draft. It is reported that Washington have traded their next THREE first round picks and a second round pick, to the St. Louis Rams for the number two overall pick. Did they pay too much?
