By The Numbers: Raiders

It was a big win for the Redskins on Sunday, despite being just the fourth game of the regular season. Going into the bye week at 1-3 might not seem all that majestic, but with the Eagles and Giants at 0-4, and the Cowboys at 2-2, Washington is very much still in the thick of things in the NFC East thanks to the victory, despite the slow start.

Here is a look at some of the more interesting, and telling numbers and statistics from the Redskins 24-14 victory over the Oakland Raiders on Sunday. Most of these stats are from the official NFL stats, and I got the NFL betting lines at TopBet.eu Sportsbook.

PSA: Blogs vs Articles And A Walk Down Memory Lane

Way back when I began the site and we started writing about the Redskins in 2002, there was no such thing as ‘blogs’. We were just a few rabid fans that were sick of reading the rigamarole of everyday media, and in a new world of technology, thought it might be of interest to other fans to give our very lay, ‘non-educated’ viewpoint of all things Redskins. I remember people telling me that I was crazy to think that anybody would care what your average Joe said about the Redskins. Over time, we developed a following, almost a cult following of sorts, and I think people realized that we were actually a group of pretty educated fans, and that we had some fairly intelligent and informed things to say – and with nobody pulling our purse strings.

Best Loss Ever

It’s hard to keep your head up when your team is losing constantly – for years, I could never do it. I’d drag my ass around town until Thursday or Friday after every single Redskins’ defeat. Given the win/loss record for most of the last two decades – that makes for gloomy weeks and winters.

Over the years, my ability to ‘get over’ losses improved. Gradually I would be able to peel back that layer of disappointment more quickly, and not let a game’s result affect my well-being so much.

Special Redskins Outfit For Game One

I’m not artsy craftsy… I’m not good with a needle and thead – as a matter of fact, I don’t think I have ever used them except on skin – but my boy’s first cognizant Redskins football game required something drastic – something memorable.

Many moons ago at Redskins training camp, I met a friend – and I met him because his little boy was running around in the cutest pair of Redskins overalls that I had ever seen. His mom made them for him. Jackson was the happiest kid at Redskins Park that day, and probably because he looked the coolest.

So fast forward ten years to this past week. I’m sitting there trying to think what I can do for Tommy that will make his first Redskins experience a special one. The overalls spring to mind.

Caps Comeback Complete

When the Washington Capitals fell behind 3-0 to the Boston Bruins in the first period, it looked like it was going to be another one of ‘those nights’. Fortunately coach Adam Oates didn’t see it that way, managed to keep his team focused, and was rewarded with a sensational comeback from his team when Eric Fehr scored a beautiful goal in overtime to steal the two points.

Have Knee Jerk Reactions Turned Into Jerky Redactions?

I understand that the Redskins offseason has begun, and that news outlets have now kind of lost their golden egg with RG3 ‘less relevant’ to current sports affairs – but do you really have to give the ‘who to blame for the knee injury’ stories so much ummm, length? Isn’t there a statute of limitations or something?

I don’t even care wether you are in the ‘it’s all Shanahan’s fault’ camp, or the ‘RG3 should have pulled himself’ camp – can you not shut up about it already?

Richard Sherman Parody

It was really sad to see the Seattle Seahawks bow out of the playoffs yesterday, and by sad, I mean poetic. I’m sure I’m not the only Redskin fan in #RedskinsNation who like Trent Williams, wants to smack Richard Sherman in his mealy little mouth; so it was a little bit sweet to watch Roddy White blow past him like he wasn’t even there for a touchdown.

RedskinsNation Wishlists: Crowdsourcing

Yesterday I hit the Twitter waves for a little crowdsourcing information – I wanted to grab Redskins fans before they dissipate for the offseason, and I wanted to find out what they felt the Redskins most glaring needs are for 2013.

The vast majority of people were looking for help in the secondary, but there were some more detailed responses AND some slightly more creative ones too. Here is a collection of some of the responses:

Not Crying Over Spilled Milk

Feel like you’ve been kicked in the groin repeatedly? We all do. It’s never a great feeling when you feel like your team played it’s worst game in the last two months, to end the season. Obviously the story of the game was Robert Griffin III – his injured knee – and the decision to leave him in the game. I can’t believe the vitriol that I have heard spewing from many in #RedskinsNation’s mouth:
