Commanders vs Eagles 2026 Recap: Back on the Winning Side

The Commanders vs Eagles 2026 recap delivers a welcome sigh of relief. Washington scored 27 unanswered points after falling behind early and defeated the Philadelphia Eagles 27-10 on Sunday Night Football at Northwest Stadium. The victory improves the Commanders to 2-4-1 and leaves them just two games behind the NFC East-leading New York Giants with 10 games still to play.

Early Deficit and Quick Response

Philadelphia jumped ahead 10-0 in the first quarter. Jake Elliott kicked a 40-yard field goal. Saquon Barkley then scored on a three-yard run following a Commanders fumble by Chig Okonkwo.

Washington answered late in the period when Drew Stevens drilled a 56-yard field goal to get to 10-3.

Jayden Daniels then led an 11 play, 6 minute, 89-yard drive in the second quarter. The drive was capped off by Daniels finding Stefon Diggs for an eight-yard touchdown pass that knotted the game at 10s.

The teams traded very average drives before Stevens added a 39-yard field goal just before halftime to stake out their first lead of the game, at 13-10.

Defense Dominates

The Commanders defense took over the game after the first quarter. It shut out the Eagles for the final three quarters and limited Philadelphia to 91 rushing yards on 29 carries (3.1 yards per attempt). Barkley did have a touchdown but was otherwise held to just 30 yards on 13 carries.

Tanner McKee completed 23 of 34 passes for 212 yards but threw no touchdowns. Washington sacked him five times, forced a fumble, and intercepted one pass. The unit held the Eagles to 268 total yards and just 3.9 yards per play.

Scrappy Offense

Rachaad White led the ground game with 55 yards on 11 carries and scored the win-sealing one-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter. Austin Ekeler added the two-point conversion.

Stevens kicked two more field goals, to make him 4 of 5 on the day. That included a 25-yarder after a McKee fumble and a 42-yarder.

Daniels finished 16 of 29 for 217 yards and one touchdown with no interceptions. He distributed the ball effectively without Terry McLaurin. Treylon Burks hauled in three catches for 81 yards, including a long 53-yard gain.

As predicted, Washington covered the spread and the game went under.

Standing and Outlook

The win snaps a month-plus long stretch without a victory and hands the Eagles their sixth straight loss, dropping them to 2-6 and last place in the division. The Giants sit at 4-2-1, the Cowboys at 3-5, and Washington at 2-4-1. Ten games remain, and the Commanders remain very much in the NFC East conversation.

Head coach Dan Quinn noted after the game that the team played well in three quarters but still needs all four. The defense’s run-stopping performance and ability to pressure the quarterback provided the foundation for the comeback.

Washington can now turn their attention to the next stretch of the schedule with renewed confidence. They face the 4-4 Rams next week, but then will get a direct attempt at cutting into the Giants lead atop the division when they face each other in Week 10.
