Difficult Loss To Swallow?

I know I wasn’t the only one that found Sunday’s loss to the Falcons heart-breaking – most of Redskins Nation were pretty devastated. I tried to provide even a minor amount of silver-lining through my Twitter account, but some to many just weren’t having it.

Which I understand to a degree, but maybe not to the degree that sometimes seems to be the case.

Ok, I get it. We could have won the game. I even understand that some will feel that we SHOULD have won the game. At the end of the day, we just didn’t.

Falcon Anecdote

I remember years ago when the site was part of the Fan 2 Fan Alliance and every week, fans of other teams would raid our message board. It was weekly pandemonium. The internet was different then. There was one particular occasion where we were playing the Falcons… given today’s game against Atlanta, it seemed an appropriate time to reminisce.

At the time we were doing a weekly podcast with then Redskins receiver Brandon Lloyd. The following day, one of the Atlanta fans hit our message boards to mock me.

Flashback Friday: Trevor Matich

Today’s Flashback Friday is Trevor Matich. After all, today is his birthday. 🙂

Matich played for the Redskins from 1994 through 1996, but was in Washington after his playing days, cutting his broadcasting teeth in D.C.

Perhaps the most memorable quote by Matich in his time here, was on (then) Head Coach Steve Spurrier:

“The Redskins would be better off if their head coach were a ham sandwich. A ham sandwich has no personal agenda and would at least do no harm.”

Umm, perfect.

Sonny Jurgensen: Throwback Thursday

In light of the Redskins’ match-up against their division rival Eagles this week, it seemed like a good time to feature Redskins mainstay Sonny Jurgensen.

Jurgensen was drafted by Philadelphia, and played seven seasons there; before being traded to Washington for quarterback Norm Snead and cornerback Claude Crabbe. He played eleven seasons for the Redskins, and incredibly won the NFL passing title in his final 1974 season at the age of forty. He was induced into the Pro Football Hall of Fame with the Class of 1983.
