How the option helps the Redskins

I was rewatching some of Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Vikings and wanted to make a quick note of how the misdirection from the triple option can fool opposing defenses.

This play began with 6:06 left to play in the first half against a very solid Minnesota defense.

Clearly we all know Robert Griffin III is the straw that stirs the Redskins’ drink. Here is visual evidence that shows how his amazing athletic ability helps fool one of the better defenses in the league. This is what happens when you have the right pieces involved along with the ability to mislead based off of that talent.

Five Quick Thoughts: Falcons

It was yet another tough experience for Redskins Nation, as Washington had every chance to hand Atlanta their first loss of the season; but in the end, it was the Falcons who came out on top 24-17. Here are some quick thoughts on the game:

1) Robert Griffin III – Obviously the collective breaths of every Redskin fan on the planet, were held tight, when RGIII was drilled in the head. Mildly concussed, he wouldn’t return. Hopefully RGIII will recover quickly and be ready for next week, but will this be a wake up call to the importance of sliding for the young rookie? Tough is tough, but you don’t have to be careless to be tough. He needs to learn to protect himself a bit better, and live to fight another down. It’s hard to even suggest to someone with the kind of fire and integrity that RGIII has, that he should take the ‘easier route’ but that’s what he needs to do. His team needs him – for more than any one game, or any one play.

RGIII Everywhere

RGIII is everywhere.

NFL.com is running a story titled, “RG3 and Redskins top NFL watchability power rankings.” It seems strange, considering that in the actual content of the article itself, the only mention of Griffin is, “Quarterbacks Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III make mediocre squads fascinating. I want to be there from the beginning with their careers.”

It seems almost gratuitous to make the Redskins and Griffin the subject of the story’s title, when other than Washington being in a list of “Must Watch” teams, the only other mention of them is to call them a “mediocre squad.”

Five Quick Thoughts About: Bucs

There were a lot of things to see and feel on a day that was a roller coaster for most of Redskins Nation. After a dominant first half, and then nearly throwing it away in the second half, a knight in shining armor swooped in and saved the day – only our knight had a sleeve on his left arm.

RGIII – why not start where everyone will? The guy is just phenomenal. Every week, he reveals a new wrinkle to his game and or character, and he just keeps impressing everyone that knows anything about football. When Griffin took to the field with less than 2 minutes to go, with 1 timeout, and EVERY drop of momentum going Tampa’s way – I still believed that he would do it. I tweeted:

All Green And Wrinkly

Remember when you were a wee lad and your running joke when somebody would say, “I feel like a million bucks,” was to quickly quip, “Yeah! All green and wrinkly! Nanny nanny poo poo.”

Well I’m all green and wrinkly this week, because I feel like a million bucks. Less than 48 hours removed from the 2012 Washington Redskins opener, and the debut of one Robert Griffin III, I STILL can’t get the smile off of my face.

Let me first clarify something, I am not an optimist – at least not by nature. I’m much more of a pragmatist with a hint of realism for the most part. I take my sports seriously – I take my Redskins even more seriously than that. I believe in supporting your team no matter what, but not necessarily blindly either. I am used to tempering both enthusiasm and malaise as a fan, but alas this week, I cannot temper my enthusiasm. We finally got ourselves an all-world player.
