The Redskins were completely embarrassed by Eli Manning and the New York Giants on Thursday. Here are some of the more telling statistics and numbers from New York’s 45-14 dismantling of Washington:
449 – Total yards of offense for the Giants, to the Redskins 329.
300 – Yards passing for Eli Manning on 28 completions (40 attempts). He dismantled the Redskins defense, with 4 passing touchdowns, and also rushed for one himself.
259 – Total yards passing for Kirk Cousins.
The Redskins listed a staggering 17 players on their official injury report for Monday – a fact compounded exponentially by the fact that they play the Giants on Thursday this week. Here is a list of Monday’s official designations:

449 – Yards of total offense. Not bad for a first year coach in just his second game, and missing his starting quarterback, his number 2 wide receiver and his tight end.
250 – Yards passing for Kirk Cousins. it was as solid a performance as you could ask for from your back-up quarterback. He finished the day at 22 of 33, but completed his first TWELVE passes.
191 – Yards rushing for Washington. The offensive line was stalwart against the Jags, they opened holes for everyone, especially between the tackles.
148 – Anaemic total yards for Jacksonville. Great job Redskins defense!
Were it not for a couple of critical mistakes at critical times for the Washington Redskins on Sunday, they might have endured a better fate than the 17-6 loss that they suffered to the Houston Texans. But as someone really old and wise that I know used to say, “If ifs were skiffs, we’d all be at sea.” Vital fumbles in the Red Zone on a handoff from Robert Griffin III to Alfred Morris, and a Niles Paul drop, proved to be wasted opportunities that Washington simply could not overcome.
“Inexcusable to have turnovers in the Red Zone,” said coach Jay Gruden in the post-game press conference. Gruden was obviously disappointed to see his first game as an NFL head coach, end in a loss. He’s absolutely right though. Paul especially should have to sew a football to his hand for the week to learn the importance of holding on to it. But hey coach, it’s inexcusable to not utilize a running attack that was gashing the Texans all day long too, so I understand your chagrin. Just saying.
It’s hard to glean much from any NFL preseason game – the stakes are low, and often the tempo and crispness of the game is fractionally lower; but there are things you can look at, and over-analyze, because that’s the modern day sports arena! Here are some quick hitters about the Washington Redskins 23-17 loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Saturday night at M&T Bank Stadium:
1. Jason Hatcher is Legit
Arguably the season’s most important offseason acquisition, Hatcher wasted no time in establishing that he was “as advertised” in his first action of the season. On just his second play in the burgundy and gold, Hatcher bull-rushed his way to Joe Flacco for a 12-yard sack; he made Pro Bowl guard Marshal Yanda look pedestrian at best. Despite offseason knee surgery, and not playing in the first two preseason games, the former Cowboys’ defensive end was solid, and gave Redskins fans a glimpse of what he brings to the table, and the incredible versatility that it gives Defensive Coordinator Jim Haslett in defensive packages. Hatcher also played 17 snaps, despite only being slated for 10 – a positive sign that his knee is doing well.
Robert Griffin III and the Washington Redskins offense, had a very tough 2013 season. RGIII was coming off knee surgery last off-season, which really hindered his development. He didn’t have the off-season workouts that most quarterbacks and receivers have. He had to spend all of last off-season rehabbing his surgically repaired right knee.
So what can we expect from Robert Griffin III in 2014? I personally expect a healthy and rejuvenated RGIII that will be the comeback player of the year next season. He now has an off-season to develop his game and to start finding a rhythm with his receivers. New Redskins head coach Jay Gruden, who worked with Andy Dalton in Cincinnati, can definitely help RGIII become a much better quarterback.

Late Tuesday night, the 27-year old wide receiver agreed to terms with Washington, and instantly became the Redskins’ crown jewel of the 2014 offseason. Anyone in the Redskins Nation twitterverse has been watching with bated breath for the last 24 hours, as rumors swirled, and speculation mounted, as to whether or not a deal with Jackson was, or could get done.

Is there anything worse for a Redskins fan, than losing to the Dallas Cowboys? How about betting online AND losing a game largely due to the play of the special teams units? Sure there were plenty of other things to point to in Sunday’s 31-16 loss to the Cowboys, but you can’t give up (ostensibly) 14 points on special teams, leave three on the board, and not notice that it’s 17 points in a 15-point loss.
