Offensive Tackle Chris Samuels and Defensive Tackle Anthony Montgomery were both limited in practice this week and both were dealing with knee problems. The Washington Redskins have said they have to manage Samuels’s knee throughout the season, because Chris had knee surgery in the offseason and experienced some minor knee problems in the preseason. Coach Jim Zorn said Anthony Montgomery “has a little roughness on his knee”, and is limited in practice because of patellar tendinitis.

Blow it Up

If the Redskins are going to as they say “blow it up” then they should blow it up the right way.

The Redskins have a number of holds to fill but “Blowing it Up” won’t create that many more, with no option to push money forward as dead cap money and hurt future teams ability to upgrade. Dumping salary just to throw it at another player that’s only going to be around for a few years would be a waste of time. Finding lower level free agents that will contribute their first year at a reasonable cost is what is needed over the next few years.

Here’s an update to last week’s HogWire which looked at what would happen if the NFL playoffs had started last week:

#1 Last week the Detroit Lions were the only NFC team not in the hunt for one of the six annual post season spots, this week they are still the only team not in the hunt, although the Philadelphia Eagles are doing their best to join them. The Eagles 36-7 lost to the Ravens on Sunday dropped them to 5-5-1 and behind every team in contention for a playoff berth with the exception of the Green Bay Packers who fell to 5-6 after giving up 51 points to the Saints.
