Washington opens the 2026 season the hard way, travelling to Lincoln Financial Field, for Commanders vs Eagles Week 1. Let the games begin.
Gameday Info
- Matchup: Washington Commanders (0-0) at Philadelphia Eagles (0-0)
- Date/Time: Sunday, September 13, 2026 — 4:25 p.m. ET
- Location: Lincoln Financial Field, Philadelphia, PA
The Matchup
This is the first time these two NFC East rivals have opened a season against each other since 2019. It’s also the first meeting since Washington closed out a rough 2025 (5-12, no playoffs) with that Week 18 win over Philadelphia’s reserves.
Both offenses have new play-callers: Washington’s David Blough is scrapping Kliff Kingsbury’s spread-heavy system for a traditional, under-center, timing-based passing attack. Philadelphia’s Sean Mannion is installing his own rhythm-passing scheme after taking over playcalling duties. Both changes are designed to get their respective quarterbacks — Jayden Daniels and Jalen Hurts — under center more often and rebuild structure around them.
Washington lost All-Pro left tackle Laremy Tunsil to a torn triceps. Can Brandon Coleman step into the starting left tackle job protecting Daniels’ blindside against a Philadelphia pass rush that doesn’t need to blitz to get home?
Philadelphia, by contrast, is relatively healthy but adjusting to life without receiver A.J. Brown, who left in the offseason. That left DeVonta Smith as the clear top target.
Washington is without it’s best cornerback in Trey Amos. He will be unavailable until at least Week 5. Can Amik Robertson and Mikey Sainristil get the job done?
