The Washington Commanders finished off Phase 3 of their 2026 OTAs, after three blocks in late May and June 2026: May 27–29, June 2–4, and June 9–11.
These sessions at their practice facility in Ashburn, Virginia, marked Jayden Daniels’ first extended look at new offensive coordinator David Blough’s redesigned offense.
A New Look Under Center
Blough’s scheme puts Daniels under center far more often than in past seasons. Per Sports Info Solutions, roughly 96% of Daniels’ dropbacks came from shotgun during his first two years. That will lessen significantly in the new offense.
Head coach Dan Quinn addressed the shift directly with reporters. He praised Daniels’ ability to pick up new systems quickly, noting the same instincts he saw during the quarterback’s rookie season.
Motivation After a Lost Season
Daniels dealt with injury setbacks throughout 2025, a season that ended 5-12 for Washington. He didn’t hide his frustration when reflecting on it:

Daniels made clear his passion for football never wavered, even during the setbacks. He enters his third season focused on staying healthy and building on his Offensive Rookie of the Year campaign from 2024.
Attendance Notes
The Commanders saw strong turnout for the opening OTA session. Terry McLaurin and left tackle Laremy Tunsil were both full participants. Quinn specifically highlighted McLaurin’s offseason work ethic:
“Terry has thrown a remarkable offseason so far,” stated Dan Quinn.
Two notable absences were Trey Amos and Dorance Armstrong, both still working back from season-ending injuries suffered in 2025.
Building Chemistry
Daniels also spoke about the receiver room, which includes rookie Antonio Williams. He described the group as young, eager, and actively building chemistry heading into the season.
With OTAs wrapped, the Commanders will continue installing both Blough’s offense and Daronte Jones’ defense next week at minicamp.
