In Love With Two Players

In case you missed it yesterday Redskins fans, General Manager Bruce Allen held a press conference to fill in some blanks about the blockbuster trade between the Washington Redskins and the St. Louis Rams.

A lot was said and you can check it all out here, but one of the most important things said was: “Clearly we fell in love with two players,” Allen offered. “We believe one of those players will be a great Redskin.”

So Let It Be Written…

… So Let It Be Done.

Last night the Washington Redskins put out a second mortgage on their house, and with the proceeds, they are going to go out and buy a shiny new toy on April 26th at the NFL Draft. It is reported that Washington have traded their next THREE first round picks and a second round pick, to the St. Louis Rams for the number two overall pick. Did they pay too much?

When Pigs Fly?

We at theHogs.net never miss an opportunity to make a bad pun on a good pig cliche, so I can’t help but think on the day that the city of Indianapolis let one of the greatest football players EVER escape, that I should look outside for flying pigs.

Subsequently I could also skate my way to a hell that must have frozen over if the mighty Peyton Manning had actually been relieved of his Colts’ duties.

And yet I watched it happen.

RGIII Composite Graphic

Well it’s already all over the internet and I never posted it anywhere but on Facebook and as my Twitter icon – but since people want to pillage it and crop off a watermark that I was nice enough to leave very discretely down one side so as to not take away from the pic, I may as well at least get it posted here for posterity!

Writing On The Wall For Landry?

Word around Redskins Nation is that the Redskins are likely to slap the franchise tag on Fred Davis. Could the move adversely spell the end of the roller coaster Redskins ride for safety LaRon Landry?

The franchise tag for Fred Davis will likely be about $5.4 Million, whereas, it will be about $6.2 Million to franchise Landry. Not a lot between the two numbers. Ironically, they’re both pretty steep prices to pay for players who weren’t on the field at the end of 2011. Davis is a lot more likely to see the field on a regular basis in 2012 though – there’s a better chance of Freddie remaining blunt-free than of Landry remaining injury free in my opinion.

The Rise and Fall of the Senior Bowl

It’s amazing that one game, an all-star game at that, can have an impact on a young college football player’s draft stock. Four years of playing with your peers is obviously nowhere near as telling as one week with all-stars – in a vanilla play environment – with vanilla rules – with vanilla preparations. Removing my tongue from my cheek, here are some guys that really helped themselves last week in Mobile:

Quinton Coples, DE, North Carolina
His only knock is that he isn’t consistently great; but he was great all week at practice, had a sack and three tackles, to post a near-great game as well. He won’t have to wait long to hear his name called at the 2012 NFL Draft, and his impressive Senior Bowl week could prove to make that wait even shorter.

Kudo Awards: Ryan Kerrigan

It’s easy to get bogged down in the doom and gloom of an offseason, when your team is on the sidelines and other teams are still playing football. In an effort to be part of a slightly positive offseason movement, an offseason that I think will bring the Redskins back to a level of true decency, I present my Kudo Awards.

Kudo Awards

Over the next week or two, I’ll be blogging about Redskins that are worthy of a pat on the back for their play in 2011. Sure the Redskins finished a dismal 5-11, but that doesn’t mean that there weren’t some really good efforts and performances put in. Up first – Ryan Kerrigan.
