What’s going on in Redskins Nation this week?

New Nike Uniforms
The Nike unveiling yesterday left a lot of people feeling unfulfilled. Seriously? When the veil was finally lifted, the Redskins uniform that was revealed was basically identical to the Reebok version. There are a couple of minor differences like the collar, the numbers on the sleeve and the sleeve cuts themselves. Reactions were mixed to say the least, ranging from, “Thank god we didn’t change anything,” to “Why can’t we have all gold uniforms with burgundy polka-dots?”

Hog Wire: Tuesday

There isn’t a lot going on in Redskins Nation right now, at least not much that wasn’t going on for the last week anyway. Here are a few non-updates:

London Fletcher – Zip. Zilch. Nada. Donut. So stop asking me. There isn’t any new news, but frankly, every day that Fletcher is a free agent, oddly, both sides gain leverage. London gains leverage because with Curtis Lofton going to the Saints, there really aren’t a lot of options left in free agency at inside linebacker. The Redskins gain leverage because there obviously aren’t a lot of other teams throwing money at Fletcher, or he may have already departed. Unfortunately that means that the two may have moved into a stalemate. It’s easy to say, “Give him more money,” but the Redskins have little to spare after the cap penalty. Something creative needs to be done cap-wise because with what will likely be a fairly short-term deal of 2 or 3 years, there isn’t any time to pro-rate out bonus money. Time shares on Dan Snyder’s yacht?

Fletcher to Pro Bowl London Fletcher tweeted yesterday that he had been added to the Pro Bowl list. Does that mean that we stop bitching about how crappy the Pro Bowl and it’s selection process is? http://twitter.com/#!/LFletcher59/statuses/156410694785437696 No way that Fletcher should have to be ‘added’ – he should have been there in the first … Read more

Kudo Awards: London Fletcher

It was announced this week that London Fletcher had been added to the 2011 Pro Bowl roster. He should have been there in the first place. Today’s Kudo Award is being presented to the middle linebacker that continues to perform at an all-star level at 36 years old.

Any 35-45 year old man that cheers for the Washington Redskins has to love Fletch – we can somehow live vicariously through him. It’s as if the fact that ONE 36-year old man has managed to play professional football well into his thirties, that somehow it’s possible for any and all. And while I guess the fact that Fletch still goes out and does it week in and week out, it IS possible – I’m not sure that its any more achievable than any other superhuman feat.

Putting Things In Perspective

We swept the Giants this year, with a very solid game against the Giants yesterday, following up on a very good performance in a shootout against one of the best teams/offenses in the league in New England. That was following a decent performance through 50 minutes against the Jets with Rex having a very off day. And that’s following a very good win against a young Seahawks team who just seems to give everyone fits.

Rex Grossman’s play has been up and down, as expected, and he still makes way too many mistakes, and some of them crucial. But under Rex Grossman, this offense seems to take a little flight. It’s true that receivers like the ability to go deep and not have to get smacked around in the middle after a 5-yard slant. It’s also true it opens up those 5-yard slants to keep defenses honest to the threat. Rex Grossman gives us a chance to be a lethal offense… but that’s it… a chance.

Analysis of the Washington Redskins and Fans

Okay, it’s finally time I present this long-winded rant about the Redskins. Just a quick disclaimer, there may be some foul language, I may target some people, and this is not going to be a rant all about the team or coaches… “fans” are as open a target as any.
