Washington Wraps Up 2021 Mini Camp: WFT News And Notes

The Washington Football Team wrapped up their three-day 2021 Mini Camp on Thursday. While these workouts are glorified walk-throughs, and no contact is involved, here are some of the observations coming out of camp.

Quarterback Situation

Much has been made about bringing in veteran quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick in the off-season. By most accounts, Fitzpatrick had a decent camp. He did throw a few interceptions, but in his first experience in a new offense, that’s to be expected.

Chase Young Caps Off Dynamite Rookie Season With Major Award

Last night, Chase Young became the first Washington player ever, to win the Associated Press Defensive Rookie Of The Year. It came as a surprise to nobody. The second overall pick in 2020 has been on a collision course with the award since mid-season.

His leadership is beyond his years. It became apparent by the mid-way point of the season, that Young was the unquestionable leader of the Washington defense. Already, in his rookie season. A defense that was playing well. So well, that it was largely on the strength of those performances that Washington went 5-2 in their final seven games.

Washington Redskins NFL Draft Selections For 2020

The 2020 NFL Draft was the 85th annual meeting of the National Football League. The Washington Redskins ended up making eight selections over the weekend, including the second overall pick. With that pick, they chose defensive end Chase Young out of Ohio State University.

The draft was originally scheduled to be held in Paradise, Nevada, but was instead held via videoconferencing due to the Covid pandemic.
