Apparently Scot McCloughan’s first order of business was to re-build the Redskins previously unremarkable defensive front. The new General Manager made his third substantial move at the position on Thursday – perhaps his most substantial one.
Washington signed defensive tackle Terrance Knighton to a (reported) one year, $4 million contract on Thursday.
Given the quick start to free agency by new Redskins General Manager Scot McCloughan, I really couldn’t stop myself from doing this. Seriously, I need a photoshop 12-step program or something… Hail to the Redskins.
It didn’t take Scot McCloughan long to establish that he’s going to be making some changes around these parts. After signing Ricky Jean-Francois early yesterday, he also cut veterans Stephen Bowen and Barry Cofield.
The two defensive linemen shared some commonalities – they both came to the Redskins four years ago – they both only played in eight games last year – and both were projected cap casualties with high bills of service for the upcoming season.
The new Redskins General Manager Scot McCloughan wasted little time in getting active in free agency, by signing former Indianapolis Colts defensive lineman Ricky Jean-Francois. The deal is reportedly a 3 year deal worth $9 million with $4 million guaranteed; but could be worth as much as $11.25 million with incentives, according to his agent Drew Rosenhaus.

Francois was released by the Colts on Monday, and the Redskins, 49ers, and Seahawks were rumoured to be interested. The 49ers actually drafted him  originally, but it was McCloughan who was the GM in San Francisco at the time. It was actually the last draft selection he made there.
For those Washington fans that may not know, former Redskins kick returner Brandon Banks is now earning a paycheque in the Canadian Football League. After three years with Washington, Banks made the jump to Canadian Football last year, and will probably never look back.
This week he signed a 3-year deal with the Hamilton Tiger Cats. Banks spent last year with Hamilton, where he nearly stole the Grey Cup in the waning moments with a 90-yard punt return, unceremoniously called back for a penalty. That close call, and the promise of job security, made re-signing with the TiCats an easy decision for Banks.

As much as I hated the entire week leading up to the Super Bowl, the game itself was absolutely fantastic. It was… what the Super Bowl is supposed to be. A closely contested battle between what were quite obviously the league’s two best teams.
Let’s face it, the Seahawks blew it. There isn’t a coach / player / team alive that wouldn’t take the scenario that Seattle had. Down by just 4 points – less than a minute to go – but with the ball on the one yard line and with the game’s absolute best power back in your backfield. Marshawn Lynch can gain a yard on nearly any play, he is #BeastMode for a reason. That reason. The guy can run with 8 NFL players on his back. His leg drive is incredible.
So how on earth do you call a pass?
The pageantry from the NFL this week has been incredible. From Deflate-Gate to reporters clad in barrels, the hype machine during the Super Bowl lead-up has been absolutely feverish.
