Bio
Sonny Styles was selected 7th overall in the 2026 NFL Draft out of Ohio State. Born Alexander Styles on November 24, 2004, in the Columbus area, the 6-foot-5, 243-pound defender is the son of former Buckeyes and NFL linebacker Lorenzo Styles Sr. and the younger brother of defensive back Lorenzo Styles Jr.
A highly touted five-star recruit from Pickerington Central, Styles began his Ohio State career at safety. He converted to linebacker in 2024. The move paid off immediately: he helped the Buckeyes win the 2024 national championship. He earned second-team All-Big Ten honors that year, and became a first-team All-American and team captain in 2025 while leading the defense in tackles. He finished his college career with 244 tackles, 22.5 tackles for loss, and 9 sacks.
Styles posted an eye opening 4.46-second 40-yard dash, 43.5-inch vertical, and 11-foot-2 broad jump at the NFL Combine.
The 21-year-old is a high-upside, three-down linebacker. He has the length, range, and leadership to hopefully become the cornerstone of the Commanders’ defense.
Season
He is now wearing No. 52 for your Washington Commanders.
Through four games, he has 20 tackles – 11 solo, 9 assisted – as well as an interception and a forced fumble. He has had little trouble fitting right into the lineup, and he was the NFC Defensive Player of the Week in Week 3.
