The Washington Commanders have concluded their Organized Team Activities (OTAs) for 2025. This marks a significant step in their preparation for the upcoming NFL season. With a focus on team chemistry, player development, and strategic experimentation, OTAs provide valuable insights into the team’s readiness.
Washington Commanders 2025 OTAs Participation
One of the standout features of this offseason has been the full participation of key players. Head Coach Dan Quinn emphasized the importance of this commitment.
“No one wants to be behind and have anything that would leave them any space as we’re competing going forward.”
This collective dedication underscores the team’s unified approach as they continue this chapter under Quinn’s leadership.
The OTAs have also been a platform for individual players to showcase their skills and compete for starting positions. Rookie cornerback Trey Amos has been turning heads. He may play a significant role in the upcoming season.
Veteran defensive tackle Daron Payne also highlighted the importance of offseason training. “I pride myself in working hard during the offseason so I can be there and play through the entire season without being injured or off the field or missing any time. So I take that into my off-season training, train hard so I could be out there with the guys.” Everyone has praised the level of intensity that Payne came to camp with. With Jonathan Allen moved on, Payne is expected to step up and fill more of a leadership role.
Noticeably Absent From OTAs
Marshawn Lattimore
Washington traded for Lattimore midseason from New Orleans, but a hamstring injury restricted him to just two regular-season appearances — though he did suit up for all three of the Commanders’ playoff games.
Lattimore has only $2 million in guaranteed money remaining in each of the final two years of his current deal. However, his absence from voluntary OTAs seems consistent with his past approach rather than a push for a new contract. He also opted out of voluntary sessions during his time with the Saints, including in each of the last two seasons.
Terry McLaurin
Terry McLaurin is coming off his most productive season yet, finishing with 82 receptions for 1,096 yards and a career-high 13 touchdowns — just one fewer than he totaled over the previous three seasons combined. He is now entering the final year of his contract.
While contract extension talks have been ongoing, no agreement has been reached.
In 2022, McLaurin skipped both voluntary OTAs and mandatory minicamp before signing a three-year extension. This year, he had participated in all offseason workouts until the week of May 20.
Coach Quinn is not concerned. “Terry’s had a great offseason,” he said.
Laremy Tunsil
Washington acquired Tunsil in a March trade. He has participated in some voluntary offseason workouts, but was not present for the first set of OTA practices. Tunsil frequently skipped voluntary sessions during his time with the Houston Texans.
His attendance would be beneficial given that he needs to adjust to a new offensive line group. Still, Tunsil’s proven track record of in-season performance helps ease any concerns about his OTA availability.
Quinn Stresses Relationships At OTAs
Coach Quinn’s emphasis on building strong relationships with players has been a cornerstone of the team’s culture.
His approach involves understanding players beyond their on-field roles, fostering a supportive environment that encourages growth and accountability. This philosophy has been instrumental in creating a cohesive team dynamic.
Looking Ahead from Washington Commanders 2025 OTAs
As the Commanders transition into mandatory minicamp and eventually training camp, the foundation laid during the OTAs will be crucial. The team’s commitment to participation, individual development, and a strong coaching philosophy sets the stage for a promising 2025 season.
With a renewed sense of purpose and unity, the Washington Commanders are poised to build on their successes and tackle the challenges of the upcoming NFL season.
Mandatory Mini Camp opens tomorrow.
