Hognostications: Week 3 Picks

Congratulations go out to Fiji Hog with a 13-2 record last week.  There were several hognosticators with a respectable 12-3 record also.

Damn.. MANY close games last week.  I guess that’s what separates the men from the boys.  That’s OK, I like using the Redskins strategy and lulling my opponent to sleep before I make my move.

If you want to make a few bucks this week, then I suggest you take these to the bank:

Houston at Tennessee: The Texans (0-1) are coming off an unexpected bye week because of the damage to their stadium, courtesy of Ike.  The Titans (2-0) continued in their winning ways last week even after the Vince Young saga.  The Titans’ defense is too much for the young Texans to handle.  Pick Titans

Oakland at Buffalo:  The Raiders (1-1) got their first win last week from the hapless Chiefs.  The Bills (2-0) continue to impress with their victory over the Jags last week and beating the Seahawks in week one.  Look for Buffalo to turn some heads this year.  Pick Bills

Carolina at Minnesota:  The Panthers (2-0) have started strong this season by beating the Charges, in week one, and the Bears, in week two, by an average of 2.5 points.  The Vikings have struggled starting off 0-2.  Is Frerotte the answer?  The Vikings hope so in giving ol’ Gus the nod this week.  Pick Vikes

Kansas City at Atlanta:  The Chiefs (0-2) are in for a long season.  Hanging with the Patriots in week one to lose by 7 and getting drubbed last week by Oakland.  Which Falcons (1-1) team shows up this week?   Week one, in which their offense was on fire or last week, in which they were kept to 3 field goals?  Pick Falcons

Tampa Bay at Chicago:  This should be an interesting game.  The Bears and Bucs both enter week three with a 1-1 record.  Chicago still has a top defense and the Bucs dominated the Falcons last week 24-9.  Go with the home team here.  Pick Bears

Arizona at Washington:  Washington (1-1) comes into week three still riding the high from their first victory for Coach Zorn.  After the half, the Skins showed much improvement in their offense and their defense has continued to impress.  The Cardinals (2-0) are at the top of their division and have scored 54 points in 2 games.  Look for them to leave FedEx with a bad taste in their mouths.  Pick Skins

Miami at New England:  Nothing really to see here.  Pick Patriots

Cincinnati at N.Y. Giants:  The Bengals (0-2) continued their free-fall last week losing to the Titans.  They are dead last in the AFC in offense.  The reigning champs are 2-0  and put up 41 points last week.  If you have any fantasy players from the Bungels you need to waive them.  Pick Giants

St. Louis at Seattle:  Two winless teams meet this week in Seattle.  The Rams settled for a field goal on opening day andonly scored 13 points this past weekend.  The Hawks (0-2) were man-handled by the Bills on opening day and they lost in OT to the 49ers last week….poor babies.  Pick Seahawks

Detroit at San Francisco:  Detroit (0-2) puts up good scores each week, 21 and 25 respectively, but their defense sucks.  The 49ers beat the Seahawks last week in OT to get their first win of the season.  I feel for anyone having to watch this game.  Pick 49ers

New Orleans at Denver:  Another tough road game for the Saints (1-1) who lost to the Redskins last week 29-24.  They left FedEx more banged up than when they arrived.  Denver (2-0) has the top spot in their division and scraped by the hapless Chargers last week 39-38.  Look for Denver to go 3-0.  Pick Broncos

Cleveland at Baltimore:  The Browns (0-2) are 2nd to last in the AFC in both offense and defense, but they did manage to keep the Steelers to just 10 points last week.  The Ravens (1-0) come off an unexpected bye week thanks to Ike.  The Ravens beat the pitiful Bengals their opening week, which doesn’t tell you much.  Upset?  I think not.  Pick Browns

Jacksonville at Indianapolis:  The Jags (0-2) have lost to the Titans and Bills by an average of 5.5 points.  Will this game be their turning point?  The Colts (1-1) lost handily to the Bears 29-13 in the opening week and squeaked by the Vikes 18-15 last week.   I think this is a toss-up and could easily go either way.  In that case, you must go with the home team.  Pick Colts

Pittsburgh at Philadelphia:  Pittsburgh (2-0) travels east a couple of hours to meet their hospitable hosts the Eagles (1-1).  The Steelers easily handled the Texans in week one, 38-17.  They had a tougher time last week with Cleveland, 10-6.  The Eagles crushed the Rams, 39-3, in week one and came up on the losing end last week against the Pukes, 41-37.  (This coming from a Skins homie and Steelers fan)….Pick Eagles

Dallas at Green Bay:  This should be an exciting game Sunday night.  Two 2-0 teams with high scoring offenses.  The Packers have scored 72 points in their first two games against the Vikes and Lions.  The Pukes have scored 69 against the Raiders and Eagles.  Dallas has a better defense though.  Pick Pukes

N.Y. Jets at San Diego:  The Jets (1-1) lost last week to the Patriots, 19-10, and with it they have been brought back down to earth.  The Chargers (0-2) are still reeling from losing to the Panthers and Broncos for a combined THREE points.  Poor Norval is not a happy camper.   Pick Chargers

Last week: 9-6

Season:  9-6
