Following the roster cut down to 53 players on Tuesday afternoon, players had to clear waivers before they could be signed to the practice squad. The Washington Commanders announced yesterday that they had signed the following players to the 2022 practice squad:
T Alex Akingbulu
CB Troy Apke
DT David Bada
DE William Bradley-King
CB Corn Elder
WR Alex Erickson
S Ferrod Gardner
LB Khaleke Hudson
CB Danny Johnson
G Nolan Laufenberg
WR Kyric McGowan
WR Marken Michel
T Aaron Monteiro
RB Jaret Patterson
C Jon Toth
Good to see Jaret Patterson make that list – he needs a bit more seasoning but can fill a couple of needs.
Alex Erickson also had a pretty decent pre-season and deserved a slot.
There are currently 15 players, so there is room for one more. Teams are again allowed to carry 16 practice squad players this year.
Other Roster Moves
The Commanders made a few additional roster moves.
Former Washington Football Team linebacker Jon Bostic is now a Washington Commanders linebacker. The veteran played 4 games for the WFT in 2021, and was just released by the New Orleans Saints. The former Florida Gator was drafted by the Chicago Bears in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft
Additionally, Washington signed a pair of cornerbacks – Tariq Castro-Fields and Rashad Wildgoose. Castro-Fields had been with the San Francisco 49ers and Wildgoose had been with the New York Jets. Castro-Fields played his college ball at Penn State, while Wildgoose played at Wisconsin.
Washington also released linebackers De’Jon Harris and David Mayo. Consequently, even with the addition of Bostic, the Commanders linebacker corps consists of just four players. Expect more waiver wire action at the position.
Tight End Curtis Hodges was also moved to the IR.
