Atlanta Victory Comes At Huge Injury Cost For Washington

Washington may have dodged a loss on Sunday, but they weren’t able to dodge the injury bug.

It bit them hard. Really hard.

This week against New Orleans, the WFT will likely be without four of last week’s starters thanks to injuries. Two of the players are likely gone for the season.

Ron Rivera said in his press conference on Monday that cornerback Torry McTyer will be placed on injured reserve with a torn ACL. He was injured on the very last play of the game, when he went up for the hail mary attempt by the Falcons.

Rivera also said that Jon Bostic would likely miss the rest of the season as well. He tore his pectoral muscle.

Guard Brandon Scherff and tight end Logan Thomas both left the game on Sunday, and will miss some time.

Contingency Plans

Coach Rivera said in his press conference that veteran Wes Schweitzer will take over for Scherff. Schweitzer’s a very capable back-up, but he’s not a four time Pro Bowl franchise player.

He also said that rookie tight end Sammis Reyes will be involved this week, indicating that Thomas will probably be on the shelf against the Saints. It’s great to see the rookie get an opportunity, but again, there’s a marked drop off in talent due to Thomas’ injury.

Cam Sims and Dyami Brown were also both injured on Sunday, but updates have not yet been provided.

That makes it possible that six Washington players that were on the sidelines against the Falcons, will not be available for the Saints.

Ouch.

Literally.

It’s still a Victory Monday though. The first of the season. 🙂
