A 21-year-old Reston woman died early Thursday after Washington Redskins safety Montae Nicholson and another man brought her to a Loudoun County emergency room. The woman’s death is now under active investigation by local authorities.
What We Know About the Incident
According to the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office, the woman—identified as Julia Crabbe—was taken to the Inova Emergency Room–Ashburn HealthPlex around 1:30 a.m. on November 14. Hospital staff described her as unconscious and unresponsive. She was later pronounced dead.
Sources say Crabbe had been at Nicholson’s Ashburn home earlier that night. At some point she collapsed. Instead of calling 911 from the house, Nicholson and a second man drove her to the nearby medical facility. Detectives are still working to determine the exact timeline and circumstances.
Nicholson is cooperating with the investigation. No charges have been filed at this time.
Redskins Organization Responds
The team released a short statement on Thursday:
“We’ve been made aware of the tragic event and extend our deepest sympathies to the family who lost a loved one. Our team has alerted the league office and is cooperating with local authorities. We fully support law enforcement and respect their process as they investigate the matter.”
Nicholson did not practice with the Redskins on Thursday. He had already been sidelined by an ankle injury in recent weeks.
Prior Incident Involving Nicholson
This is not the first time the safety has faced legal scrutiny in Loudoun County. In December 2018, Nicholson was arrested and charged with misdemeanor assault and public intoxication after a fight outside a bar in Ashburn. Video of the altercation circulated online. Those charges were later dropped.
Investigation Continues
Authorities searched Nicholson’s home as part of the probe. Detectives are examining what happened in the hours before Crabbe was taken to the hospital and whether any criminal activity occurred.
Julia Crabbe was only 21 years old. Her family is grieving a sudden and heartbreaking loss. The Ashburn and Reston communities are left with difficult questions.
The death remains an active investigation. More information is expected in the coming days as officials continue their work.
