Looking Back: Thank You, Phillip Daniels, for the 2009 Hog Blog

The Phillip Daniels 2009 Blog is one of the most fun season-long features we’ve ever published on this site. Some seasons are remembered for the wins and losses. Others are remembered for the voice that carried fans through them. For Redskins fans on THN in 2009, some of that voice belonged to Phillip Daniels.

Coming off a serious knee injury, Daniels didn’t just fight his way back onto the field — he opened up his life to us, week after week, in a blog that mixed football, faith, family, and a whole lot of heart. As we archive and revisit these entries, we wanted to take a moment to say thank you, and to walk back through the season the way he told it.

Before we get to the recap, it’s worth remembering what made these blogs different. Daniels wasn’t handed a script or a PR talking point. He wrote about his teammates, his son’s high school football games, the fans in the stands, and the people who inspired him along the way.

A Final Word of Thanks

Reading back through these entries, one thing becomes clear: Phillip Daniels gave Redskins fans more than football updates. He gave us perspective, gratitude, and a genuine window into what it means to fight for something you love, on and off the field. From battling back after a devastating injury to opening up his blog to families like the Griffins, Daniels used his platform to lift others up, not just talk about himself.

So to Phillip Daniels — thank you. Thank you for the honesty, the humor, the scripture, and the stories about your son’s Friday night games.

Thank you for playing through pain and never using it as an excuse.

And thank you for trusting us with your words..
