Here are some of the more interesting numbers and stats from the Washington Redskins 31-17 loss to the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday:
196 – Yards passing for Jason Campbell, going 15 of 22. He may not have been all world out there, but he wasn’t the problem either.
166 – Yards rushing for Michael Turner, on 18 carries. He had a few late carries that brought down his average slightly, but at one point, he was 13/146 yards (2 TD) – over 11 yards per carry.
70 – Yards rushing for Ladell Betts, on 15 carries. When Clinton Portis went out with a concussion, Betts came in and played his best football since 2006. Time for a change?
69 – Total yards of Redskin offense in the first half. Putrid.
62 – Yard interception returned for a touchdown by the Falcons’ Tye Hill, at 2:47 in the first quarter – ouch.
58 – Yard TD run by Turner – the game killer that put it away at 31-17 Falcons.
56 – Yards receiving on 3 catches for Mike Sellers – a career high in reception yards for Big Mike.
46 – Yard punt average for Sam Paulescu could take him from ‘spot duty’ to gainfully employed.
24 – First half points by the Falcons. Considering the Redskins haven’t scored 24 points yet in a game in 2009, it was seemingly over before the third quarter even started.
13 – Play, 81 yard TD drive to bring the Redskins back to within striking distance at 24-17. The entire seven minute drive was the sharpest that the Redskin offense has looked this year.
10 – First quarter points TOTAL for the Redskins this season – they’ve allowed 45.
10 – Field goals on 10 attempts for Shaun Suisham in 2009 – Sunday’s was a 48-yarder.
9 – Yards passing for the Redskins in the first quarter.
7 – Tackles and 2.5 sacks for Falcon DT Jonathan Babineaux in the first half alone – he finished with ten tackles (9/1)
5 – First half sacks for the Falcons defense.
4 – Redskin penalties in the 1st quarter, including two by Albert Haynesworth on Atlanta’s opening scoring drive.
3 – Redskin players injured on one play in the 4th quarter – Jason Campbell, Mike Williams, and Stephon Heyer.
2 – Sacks for Brian Orakpo in the first half – he now has 5.5 on the season. Release the beast.
1 – Interception for Rocky McIntosh – his first of the season, and the second of his career.
1 – Catch for 11 yards for Marko Mitchell – the first of his NFL career. He also caught his 2nd NFL pass – another 11 yarder – congratulations Marko.
0 – Points gained by playing only one half of football, but at least Washington came alive in the second half and gave themselves something to perhaps build off of.
It doesn’t get any easier for the Redskins as they will face the (currently) 6-1 Denver Broncos at Fed Ex Field next Sunday.
