Redskins Looking For Redemption Sunday Against The Cardinals

There isn’t a playoff position on the line for the Redskins; nor for the Cardinals. For all intents and purposes, this is a meaningless NFL football game. Bookmakers still have the Redskins betting odds this week as four point favorites, but it remains to be seen if the “home field” advantage will amount to much.

To be accurate, the Cardinals do technically have a mathematical chance of making the playoffs, but Venus has to align with Mars, while the Sun eclipses both. Arizona are 6-7 and while there are still scenarios that can be laid out that see them make the playoffs, they aren’t likely to happen. They are two full games back, with four to go, and there are six teams ahead of them vying for those last two Wild Card berths. Not going to happen.

The Redskins are already out and this week started to shut some things down. Jordan Reed was finally put on the injured reserve after six consecutive weeks on the inactive list. Conventional wisdom says that he will still be a Redskin in 2018, but that remains to be seen. As incredibly talented a player as the tight end obviously is, he spends as much time on the inactive list or injured reserve, as he does on the field.

Last Sunday, fans were treated to one of the absolute best games of the 2017 NFL season, and one of the grittiest performances that a Washington Redskins team has put in for a long time. The Redskins overcame what seemed an insurmountable amount of injuries at key positions, as well as a late Seahawks touchdown that could have easily sucked the wind out of Washington’s sails, to come away with a hard-fought, all important 17-14 victory over the Seahawks. That type of perseverance is sure to muddle the betting odds for the Redskins games, but could also serve to springboard the Redskins to a solid back half of the season.

Even the most optimistic of the Redskins faithful came into the matchup scratching their heads. How on earth was a team that didn’t even have enough guys to field a full healthy roster, going to compete with a surging 5-2 team, that had really only one key injury?

The NFL and Head Trauma: Deandre Levy Wants to Eliminate Full-Contact Practices

What is the NFL to do about head injuries? It is a bone of contention that will not go away, and it obviously shouldn’t, not when the health of athletes is on the line. Linebacker DeAndre Levy’s recent suggestion has a lot of people buzzing.
NFL athletes make suggestions all the time, but the one from Levy could have an impact on Redskins betting odds for the season, especially if it is put into practice. If you haven’t heard, Levy participated in a congressional forum constituting members of the House Energy, Commerce, and Judiciary Committees.

The linebacker’s suggestion was that the NFL should eliminate full-contact practices. It matters that an athlete like Levy is bringing this idea to the table because that gives it more weight.

Levy made mention of the fact that he was already aching when he went into the game on Sunday because collisions he encountered on Wednesday and Thursday during practice had left him feeling significantly sore.

Redskins Offensive Line Powers Running Game Against Rams

The Washington Redskins were held to 64 total rushing yards in their season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles; it was one of the key reasons the team lost 30-17. A week after the embarrassing loss, the Redskins turned to their running game to lead them past the Los Angeles Rams, 27-20.

This week, NFL betting sites have the Redskins as underdogs against the Oakland Raiders, but the Redskins believe they have what it takes to get the win.

During the offseason, Washington coach Jay Gruden emphasized that he wanted to have a more balanced offense, after relying heavily on quarterback Kirk Cousins last year. It was difficult to get their run game going against the Eagles in their season opener because they fell behind quickly.

Against the Rams, the Redskins could run the ball more since because they didn’t have to deal with a big deficit, and they finished the game with a healthy 229 net rushing yards. Washington should be able to get some yards on the ground this week because the Raiders allowed the Jets to rush for 126 yards last week, and have been shaky on defense this season. They’re averaging 4.8 yards per carry (against) in the first two games, and will have to do better than that against the Redskins.

What does it take to transition from college football to professional NFL football? That’s the question surrounding Josh Doctson. Philadelphia Eagles Coach Doug Pederson keeps fielding questions about the athlete.

And reporters are not the only ones curious about the Redskins wide receiver. Fans cannot help but wonder what he can do on the field, whether he has the capacity to boost production against the Eagles and how he will affect the NFL odds for the Redskins in the long run.

Pederson needs to worry about Doctson because he will have a hard time getting his team ready for the wide receiver. There are no NFL game tapes of Doctson to review, no prior data from his professional football career for the Eagles Coach to analyze.

Washington had a disappointing 2016 NFL season. While key injuries may have hindered the Redskins’ chance of competing against their NFC East rival Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants, ultimately they fell short in the grand scheme of things. For many Redskins fans, it felt like Jay Gruden’s men had failed to build, or improve on the 2015 campaign.

But the 2016 season has been and gone. Time to focus on the future, and can Washington challenge at the top of the division in the coming months? With a few favorable results in the opening few weeks of the year, Gruden’s side could hit the ground running, and early momentum could help the Redskins pull away from Dallas and New York in the NFC East title race.

Jordan Reed Back to Save Redskins from Shame

Who knew the Washington Redskins would miss tight end Jordan Reed this much? Things haven’t been going too well. And even though it’s still the preseason, the Redskins betting odds are still a little worrisome.

Redskins fans breathed a sigh of relief when they learned that the Pro Bowl tight end had been removed from the PUP list on Sunday. That means fans can look forward to seeing him in practice sometime in the week.

The news was actually pretty big and it made Sunday that much brighter for anyone that cares about this season for the Redskins. Reed hasn’t been available since before the training camp.

Doctson has Big Shoes to Fill in Washington

Last season, the Washington Redskins used the 22nd pick in the draft to select Josh Doctson. At the time, the Redskins envisioned Doctson as a player that could become their best receiver in the future, after a successful collegiate career in which he had 25 touchdowns in two seasons with the TCU Horned Frogs. By selecting him with the 22nd pick, the Redskins were clearly impressed by what they saw from Doctson, who is 6 feet 2 inches tall and ran a 4.5 40 during pre-draft workouts. With Pierre Garcon and Desean Jackson in the final year of their contracts, the Redskins were hoping Doctson would learn from the veterans and establish himself as a legitimate deep threat.

The Redskins weren’t able to see Doctson in action as much as they would have liked because he dealt with an Achilles injury that ended his season in October after being put on Injured Reserve. In the two games he played, Doctson had 22 catches for 66 yards.
