Commanders New Stadium Renderings Released

The Washington Commanders new stadium renerings were just released. The transparent domed venue will seat 70,000 fans and open in 2030.

The Commanders new stadium features a striking design. The building rises on the sides and offers views of the U.S. Capitol and Washington Monument. Steel beams on the exterior nod to historic RFK Stadium, where the team played from 1961 to 1996.

The team currently plays at Northwest Stadium in Landover, Maryland. The new venue sits approximately 20 miles away in Washington, D.C.

Design Focuses on Crowd Noise and History

Planners designed the interior to maximize crowd noise. The Commanders want to regain the strong home-field advantage they once enjoyed at RFK Stadium. At RFK, Washington won three Super Bowls and reached two more.

Project Details and Future Plans

The nearly $4 billion project anchors a mixed-use development. At least 30% of the 180-acre site will feature public recreational facilities. Other buildings shown in the renderings serve as placeholders.

HKS designed the stadium. The firm also created SoFi Stadium, U.S. Bank Stadium, and AT&T Stadium.

The Commanders new stadium will deliver a modern home worthy of the Monumental Axis.

“The renderings are worthy of its extraordinary site along DC’s Monumental Axis and truly embodies the spirit and character of the District,” said Commanders President Mark Clouse.

Washington owner Josh Harris and D.C. officials hope to host major events like the 2031 Women’s World Cup or a future Super Bowl.
