Before the season started, the Commanders Vs Packers Week 2 match-up already looked tough. When the Packers traded for defensive sensation Micah Parsons from the Dallas Cowboys, things got even tougher. Washington (1-0) will square off against the Green Bay Packers (1-0) at Lambeau Field in a quick turnaround for both teams in a Thursday Night Football tilt.
The Commanders are coming off of a solid, division rival winning home opener over the New York Giants. The Pack had a similar fate, beating their division rivals, the Detroit Lions.
Head-To-Head
Washington and Green Bay have played each other 40 times (including 3 postseason games). The Packers have won 22, to the Washington Commanders 17. They also tied once.
In their last meeting in 2022, Washington came out ahead 23-21 at FedEx Field. Taylor Heinicke was 20 of 33 for 201 yards and touchdown passes to Terry McLaurin and Antonio Gibson. Aaron Rodgers had a near identical statline going 23 of 35 for 194 yards and two touchdowns.
The Micah Factor
Arguably the game’s best defensive player, it is impossible to ignore the addition of Parsons. He played in less than half the snaps against Detroit, and still managed a sack and three quarterback pressures.
“You don’t let game-wreckers wreck the game,” Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels said on Tuesday. “You’ve got to keep an eye on him. He got paid a lot of money for a reason.”
Nobody knows that better than Washington Head Coach Dan Quinn. Quinn was Parsons’ defensive coordinator in Dallas, and had the perfect advice for him this week:
“Are you asking what would I do if I were coaching him? I’d sit him this week. Yeah, short week,” Quinn joked.
In his first four seasons, Parsons has unfortunately given Washington fits. He has more sacks (10.5), tackles for loss (9) and QB hits (15) against Washington than any other team. He has faced them eight times. This includes 4.5 sacks versus Daniels in 2024.
