Mike Sainristil wins ROTW Week 18 as a different Commander claims the weekly honor. The Washington Commanders secured their playoff seeding with a victory over Dallas. The rookie cornerback delivered an outstanding defensive performance in the regular season finale.
This marked the first time all season a Commander other than Jayden Daniels won the award.
Why Mike Sainristil Wins ROTW Week 18
Sainristil showed solid coverage skills against Cowboys receivers all game long. He was credited with three pass break-ups.

The most critical one was a great break-up in the end zone on Brandin Cooks that prevented a touchdown.

But his willingness to come up and make stops in run support is likely what earned him the nod. Sainristil recorded 10 tackles – seven solo. Tuff.
The rookie cornerback capped off an impressive debut season with this stellar finale performance. He finished the season as the team’s leader in interceptions too. The young cornerback also became just the third rookie in team history to record an interception and forced fumble.
Initially expected to play primarily in the slot, Sainristil’s versatility allowed him to transition to the boundary cornerback position as needed. His ability to adapt was crucial for the Commanders, especially as they dealt with injuries and depth concerns in the secondary.
Leadership and Recognition
Beyond his on-field contributions, Sainristil’s leadership and work ethic have stood out. Veteran safety Jeremy Chinn praised him, stating, “He’s a star, man. He plays bigger than he is. He’s aggressive. He has great vision, great eyes, and he trusts his instincts.”
Head Coach Dan Quinn also commended Sainristil’s consistency and ability to learn quickly, noting that he “doesn’t repeat mistakes.”
Sainristil wins ROTW Week 18 and in doing so, ended Jayden Daniels’ remarkable run of weekly nominations throughout the 2024 season. Sainristil’s defensive excellence earned him recognition over other strong rookie performances like Bo Nix and Joe Milton.
