What happened in the Commanders Week 16 versus Eagles match-up? Rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels delivered his most legendary performance yet. Daniels threw five touchdown passes — the first Washington QB to do so since 1991. That included the game-winner to Jamison Crowder with six seconds left, lifting the Commanders to a 36–33 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles.
“The game’s never over till the clock hits zero,” Daniels said after engineering the comeback from a 13-point fourth-quarter deficit.
The win snapped the Eagles’ 10-game winning streak. It also kept the Commanders (10-5) in the thick of the NFC playoff race.
Daniels Shines in Commanders Week 16 Versus Eagles
Daniels completed 24 of 39 passes for 258 yards and five touchdown. He threw two to Crowder and one each to Terry McLaurin and Olamide Zaccheaus . He also rushed for 81 yards on nine carries. He’s the first rookie in NFL history to throw five or more touchdowns and rush for 65+ yards in the same game.
Despite throwing two interceptions, including one late in the fourth, Daniels led a 57-yard drive in under two minutes to seal the win.
“If you really love this sport, you live for those big-time moments,” Daniels said.
McLaurin added five catches for 60 yards, pushing him past 1,000 receiving yards for the fifth straight season.
Commanders Rally Late After Slow Start
The Eagles jumped out to a 14–0 lead within the first seven minutes. Saquon Barkley had both early touchdowns. But Washington fought back, with Daniels accounting for all five Commanders touchdowns to gradually chip away at the lead.
Even after a string of turnovers — fumbles by Brian Robinson Jr. and Dyami Brown, and penalties from Marshon Lattimore — the Commanders never folded.
“When the game’s on the line, [Daniels] made the plays,” McLaurin said.
Hurts Injured, Eagles Offense Sputters in Commanders Week 16 Versus Eagles
Philadelphia lost quarterback Jalen Hurts early after a pair of hits. One came from linebacker Frankie Luvu, who also recorded an interception off backup Kenny Pickett. Hurts entered concussion protocol after two sideline evaluations and did not return.
Pickett finished 14-of-24 for 143 yards, one touchdown (to A.J. Brown), and one interception. The offense stalled for much of the game. Key drops — including one by DeVonta Smith on a critical third down — contributed to the collapse.
“I just dropped the ball. It cost us the game,” said Smith.
After scoring 14 early, Barkley was held to just 41 more yards the rest of the way. Largely in part to strong adjustments by Washington’s defense.
