Commanders Week 5 Versus Browns: Daniels, Defense Dominate

In Commanders Week 5 versus Browns, Jayden Daniels rebounded from an early interception to lead the Washington Commanders to a dominant 34–13 victory over Cleveland. The rookie quarterback passed for 328 yards and rushed for 82 more as Washington extended its win streak to four games and improved to 4-1 for the first time since 2008.

Despite a few missed throws, Daniels delivered the longest touchdown pass of his young career — a 41-yarder to Dyami Brown — and showed resilience well beyond his five games of NFL experience.

“Don’t get too high, get too low. Everything’s going to work out,” Daniels said postgame.

Daniels Leads the Way in Commanders Week 5 Versus Browns

Daniels went 14-of-25 passing with 328 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. After a goal-line pick early in the game, the rookie stayed composed, delivering chunk plays including a 66-yard strike to Terry McLaurin and asking for — then executing — a deep shot to Brown.

With Daniels resting midway through the fourth quarter, backup Marcus Mariota took over to close out a lopsided game.

Commanders Ground Game and Defense Steal the Show

The running back trio of Brian Robinson Jr., Austin Ekeler, and Jeremy McNichols combined for 211 rushing yards on 31 carries. Robinson ran for two touchdowns, and Ekeler added a 57-yard breakaway run, the longest by a Commander since 2019.

On defense, Washington looked unrecognizable from the unit that ranked last on third downs entering Week 5. In Commanders Week 5 versus Browns, the defense sacked Deshaun Watson seven times, held the Browns to 212 total yards, and limited them to just 1 of 13 on third down.

“We’re just getting started,” said linebacker Frankie Luvu, who tallied 2.5 sacks.

McLaurin and Ekeler Add Explosive Plays

McLaurin recorded his best performance of the season with 4 catches for 125 yards, including a 66-yard bomb that sparked a third-quarter surge. Ekeler, back from a concussion, notched 107 yards from scrimmage, proving he’s still one of the NFL’s most dangerous dual threats.

“We can win this way, too,” said Ekeler, emphasizing the shift from short, methodical drives to explosive, big-play offense.

Cleveland’s Struggles Continue in Commanders Week 5 Versus Browns

The Browns (1-4) dropped their third straight, plagued by offensive inconsistency and poor protection for quarterback Deshaun Watson. Watson finished with 125 passing yards, a garbage-time touchdown, and a costly fumble.

Despite standout play from Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, who had a pick, a sack, and a forced fumble, Cleveland couldn’t keep pace.

“Nobody likes where we are,” said Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski.
