2024 Commanders Draft Picks: Full Breakdown of Rookie Class

The 2024 Commanders draft picks reflect a clear commitment to building a faster, smarter, and more physical football team. The front office showed balance and intent throughout the draft, with strong decisions beyond their top selection of Jayden Daniels.

“This was a draft about depth, versatility, and leadership,” said Commanders General Manager Adam Peters. “We nailed that at every level.”

Let’s break down each new Commanders rookie and how they fit the future of the franchise.

The Best of the 2024 Commanders Draft Picks

Ben Sinnott – Tight End – Round 2, Pick 53

Ben Sinnott, from Kansas State, is a dual-threat tight end with real upside. He caught 49 passes for 676 yards and six touchdowns in his final college season. Coaches praised his discipline as both a route-runner and blocker. Sinnott was named First-Team All-Big 12 twice and finished his career with over 1,100 receiving yards.

“Ben Sinnott was one of the most complete tight ends in this class,” said ESPN Draft Analyst Matt Miller.

Sinnott is expected to contribute immediately in two-tight end sets.

Brandon Coleman – Offensive Lineman – Round 3, Pick 67

Brandon Coleman started 38 games at TCU and was a rock at left tackle. Standing 6’6” and 320 pounds, he combines size with rare mobility. Scouts have noted his fast feet and hand placement. Coleman was a 2023 Second-Team All-Big 12 selection and allowed just two sacks last season.

“Brandon, I think, will come in and compete just like everybody else, said Peters. “And we certainly think he has what it takes to be a tackle in this league. He’s got the feet, he’s got the speed, he’s got the strength, and he’s got the intelligence and the right mindset.”

Washington may shift him inside to guard early on, but his future is flexible.

Luke McCaffrey – Wide Receiver – Round 3, Pick 100

Luke McCaffrey, the former quarterback turned wide receiver, gives the Commanders a shifty route-runner with high football IQ. At Rice, he caught 71 passes for 992 yards and 13 touchdowns as a senior. He’s a smooth separator and can line up inside or outside.

His background as a QB helps him read defenses and create openings.

The young receiver was very happy to be drafted by Washington:

“I think the Commanders were just the team that I was excited for, especially with Kliff Kingsbury running the offense with Dan Quinn… And then you draft probably the best quarterback in the draft right there with Jayden Daniels, said McCaffrey. “Just to have that rapport and those new faces in a building, you can’t help but be excited about this kind of being the landing spot.”

Luke is the younger brother of NFL running back Christian McCaffrey and the son of former Denver Broncos wide receiver Ed McCaffrey. So he has excellent genetics.

Key Defensive 2024 Commanders Draft Picks

Jordan Magee – Linebacker – Round 5, Pick 139

Jordan Magee captained Temple’s defense and brings downhill aggression to Washington’s linebacker corps. He totalled 80 tackles and four sacks in 2023 and ran a 4.55 40-yard dash at his Pro Day.

His college coach Stan Drayton was certainly very complimentary, “Jordan Magee is the type of fifth-rounder who becomes a ten-year pro.”

Magee’s leadership and special teams ability will help him find the field early.

Dominique Hampton – Safety – Round 5, Pick 161

Dominique Hampton was a five-year contributor at Washington and racked up 100 tackles last season alone. He’s a physical safety who excels in zone coverage and doesn’t shy from contact. At 6’2″, 215 pounds, he adds much-needed depth to the secondary and could be a core special teamer from day one.

Javontae Jean-Baptiste – Defensive End – Round 7, Pick 222

Javontae Jean-Baptiste brings a relentless motor to the edge. He had six sacks and 10.5 tackles for loss for Notre Dame in 2023 after transferring from Ohio State. His long arms and burst off the line stood out at the Senior Bowl.

Though a seventh-round pick, he could surprise in training camp.

What To Expect From The 2024 Commanders Draft Picks

It’s hard to judge a draft. For years. Yet, everybody wants to grade a draft and offer some sort of soul-searching analysis of how it will all work out.

Washington appear to have done very well in the 2024 NFL Draft.

“These guys all play hard,” said Head Coach Dan Quinn. “That’s what we want our culture to be.”

That sentiment was echoed by the Commanders owner Josh Harris: “You win in this league by drafting smart, tough football players. And that’s what we did.”

Adam Peters also emphasized the importance of leadership in the Commanders’ 2024 draft class, noting that seven of the nine players selected were team captains. This approach reflects the team’s commitment to building a roster a certain way.

“That’s exactly what we’re looking for, all those things,” said the Commanders GM. “And these guys all fit exactly what we want as Commanders. We’re very proud of that. We’re proud of the type of people we brought in, starting with Jayden [Daniels] yesterday and then, really all night tonight.”

The strategy underscores the organization’s focus on acquiring players who not only possess athletic talent but also align with the team’s culture.
