Wallpaper Wednesday: Tress Way Mobile Wallpaper

Today’s wallpaper subject is Tress Way – because he’s about the only player on the Washington Commanders that is leading the NFL in any category. Tress has punted the ball a league-high 29 times.

Okay, maybe that’s not that positive a statistic, because you don’t really want to lead the league in that category. But that part isn’t Way’s fault.

Tress is also second in the NFL in total yards with 1,368 yards. Only Ryan Stonehouse of Tennessee has more (1,483 yards).

He’s also amongst the league leaders in Return Yards, with only 53 yards. That’s a pretty good number given how many times he has punted the ball.

He has also pinned the opposition inside the 20-yard line 10 times, which is also NFL Top 10 (9th).

His net of 44.0 yards is also good enough for 7th in the NFL.

Career

The Oklahoma product is now in his ninth season – all of them in Washington. He actually began with the Chicago Bears as an undrafted free agent in 2013. After being released in both the 2013 and 2014 seasons, Washington signed him on August 20, 2014.

The 32-year old now has 28,159 yards – which is about 16 miles!  He is just 7,587 yards behind franchise leader Mike Bragg, who had 35,746 yards for Washington from 1968-1979. Bragg also had 3,203 yards for Baltimore in 1980, and finished with 38,949 yards in his career.

Way should finish the 2022 season with over 30,000 yards and would likely only need two more seasons to surpass Bragg for the franchise record.

Way and Bragg lead the rest by a country mile. Matt Turk is third with 16,981 yards (1995-1999), and Sammy Baugh was fourth with 15,245 yards. Baugh played for Washington from 1937 to 1952 but didn’t punt much after 1947.

And yes, he’s wearing Redskins garb. Sue me.

Bright Spot

For years, Redskins, Football Team, Commanders fans have joked that Way is “our all-star.” Surprisingly he has made the Pro Bowl just once.

The truth is, he IS often the best player on the field for Washington.

He’s also an all around good guy.
