Wallpaper Wednesday: The Squire – Vintage Jack Kent Cooke

Typically there are only #WallpaperWednesdays during the regular season, but sometimes exceptions have to be made.

Like marking the occasion of the anniversary of the passing of the late, great Jack Kent Cooke.

Incredibly, it has been 25 years since The Squire passed away.

The Squire

If you are 30 years old or younger, and aren’t familiar with the former owner, hit the History section of the website and read all about him.

We have a page dedicated to him and his time in Washington. He was quite a character, and a great owner.

At one time he owned the Los Angeles Lakers AND the Los Angeles Kings.

He built The Fabulous Forum in 1967.

He even promoted the “Fight of the Century” at Madison Square Garden in 1971 – the first fight between Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier.

Jack Kent Cooke Stadium

Fed Ex Field was originally named Jack Kent Cooke Stadium before Dan Snyder bought the team.

It was posthumously named after JKC as he died just five months before the stadium that he built was to open.

There were more than a few Redskins fans that considered the re-naming a bad omen. Some even call it the Jack Kent Cooke Curse – and cite it as the reason that Washington football has been on a steady decline ever since.

Crazy?
