Redskins Fall to Giants 41-35 in OT: Haskins Injured

The Washington Redskins fall to the New York Giants on Sunday in a heartbreaking 41-35 overtime loss. Despite a valiant effort, the Redskins couldn’t overcome Daniel Jones’ explosive performance and some key injuries.

Dwayne Haskins started strong before disaster struck. The rookie quarterback completed 12 of 15 passes for 133 yards and two touchdowns in the first half. However, Haskins injured his left ankle on the first play of the second half.

Head physician Dr. Robin West did not clear Haskins to return. Moreover, owner Dan Snyder encouraged the quarterback to listen to medical advice. “I tried to go back in, but he wouldn’t let me,” Haskins explained.

Keenum Steps Up in Relief

Case Keenum replaced the injured Haskins admirably. The veteran quarterback threw his first passes since suffering a concussion at Minnesota on October 24. Furthermore, Keenum completed 16 of 22 passes for 158 yards.

Most importantly, Keenum led a spectacular 99-yard drive in the final minutes. He rushed for the tying touchdown with just 29 seconds remaining in regulation. This clutch performance forced overtime and gave the Redskins hope.

Defense Struggles Without Key Players

The Redskins defense faced significant challenges throughout the contest. The secondary was missing several regulars, including cornerbacks Quinton Dunbar and Fabian Moreau. Both players were sidelined with hamstring injuries.

Additionally, safety Montae Nicholson struggled against Saquon Barkley’s explosive runs. The Giants running back accumulated 279 total yards, including a 67-yard touchdown run. Consequently, the defense couldn’t contain New York’s offensive attack.

Playoff Implications and Draft Position

This loss dropped the Redskins to 3-12 on the season. However, the defeat improved Washington’s draft position significantly. The team now controls the No. 2 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

If Cincinnati selects Joe Burrow first overall, the Redskins could target Ohio State pass rusher Chase Young. The defensive end would address a major need for Washington’s struggling defense.

Despite the disappointing result, the Redskins showed resilience. The team fought back from multiple deficits and forced overtime against a division rival.
