Redskins Release Linebacker Marcus Washington

On Friday the Redskins announced the release of nine-year veteran linebacker Marcus Washington.

Washington joined the Redskins in 2004 and instantly became a fan favorite and locker room prescence with his infectious smile and neverending energy on the field.

Washington had instant success with the Redskins, earning a Pro Bowl bid in his first season with the team in 2004.

The past couple of seasons have not been easy for Washington. Arguably one of the best free agent signings made in recent memory, injuries have slowed down the 31 year-old, taking away his speed and effectiveness he had become known for in D.C.

The move reportedly frees up approximately $4 million in salary cap space. The Redskins main priorities involve offensive line and defensive line but now may include linebacker considering that when Washington was at the top of his game, he was arguable a Top 5 outside linebacker.

Washington entered the NFL as a 2nd round draft pick in 2000 out of Auburn by the Indianapolis Colts.
