Who will start at TE ???

Post by 1niksder »

During the bye week we let our starting TE go and signed Baxter to replace him. I didn't think he would step in and start, but he was let go today :hmm: . Now we are down to only have 15 or 20 on the roster  but who is the starter

Robert Royal backed up by Baxter I believe w/ Cooley at H-back.
The opinion of 10,000 men is of no value if none of them know anything about the subject.

True.

The 6-foot-4, 257-pound Royal will get his latest chance to start against Green Bay on Sunday after the Redskins released 10-year veteran Walter Rasby last week. Royal is a splendid pass-catcher at tight end, where his athletic ability and football smarts make him appealing to Coach Joe Gibbs.

The coaching staff wants Royal to lose a few pounds and increase his strength. Despite being known more for his pass-catching ability, Royal has improved his blocking since college when he wasn't asked to do much of it. The Redskins eventually saw little difference between Royal and Rasby, whose forte is blocking. The Redskins have started training him to play H-back, a hybrid tight end and fullback.

"He gives us a dual-purpose guy," Simmons said.

Rest of the Story...

So we now have Brian Kozlowski, Mike Sellers and Chris Cooley along with Robert Royal :hmm: no true TE they are all more or less H-backs...... Maybe Joe's cooking something up

Koz was cut and then they resigned him.
Royal should be a good TE, with Cooley at h-back. I think the coaching staff should give Sellers a chance, he is playin well on special teams right now.
Plus he is an old CFL'er...

Still Redskin so far the price the skins gave up for him is not showing up. Same with Brunell by the way.

I want Cooley to be in there for more plays. The guy is such a weapon...and we don't use him enough.

Royal was playing great before getting injured. I'm glad he's getting a shot - he's got great hands. I don't know about his blocking ability - but he can't be any worse than Rasby... I think he'll be just fine.

very true... i think we just may see less two TE sets and have more 3 WR with a fullback... it was very successfull against the bears... plus it get more of our athletes on the field... I think Jacobs has impressed Gibbs... I would like to see this kid play more....

I heard that they are converting Jim Molinaro to TE! Just kidding, but has anyonr seen an O-lineman in at TE this year? Gibbs used to bring one or two backups in in the "Heavy Jumbo" package. I think down near the goal line no one would cover Molinaro or Wilson in a "Heavy Jumbo" play action and they would be wide open. I am bored and looking for some straws of entertainment.

The only problem is that Royal is a bit injury prone--I don't personally have any expectations that he's going to last for the season, but I do hope that I'm wrong.

They sure don't make 'em like they used to. Imagine Shockey in this offense. Or that Falcon with the funny name. "Pond Scum" or "Algae" or something.

from the Washington Post....
For Cooley (6 feet 3, 265 pounds) to assume a starting role is no small achievement, and the coaches are thrilled to have landed him with the 81st overall pick. "We got exactly what we thought we got there," Gibbs said. "He's a real productive guy. If you get the ball to him, I think he runs good after the catch."

There are no complaint from Skins fans or coaches can the same be said about Jason Witten. The soldier really didn't make it out of boot camp
