The 6-foot-4, 257-pound Royal will get his latest chance to start against Green Bay on Sunday after the Redskins released 10-year veteran Walter Rasby last week. Royal is a splendid pass-catcher at tight end, where his athletic ability and football smarts make him appealing to Coach Joe Gibbs.
The coaching staff wants Royal to lose a few pounds and increase his strength. Despite being known more for his pass-catching ability, Royal has improved his blocking since college when he wasn't asked to do much of it. The Redskins eventually saw little difference between Royal and Rasby, whose forte is blocking. The Redskins have started training him to play H-back, a hybrid tight end and fullback.
"He gives us a dual-purpose guy," Simmons said.

So we now have Brian Kozlowski, Mike Sellers and Chrisey along with Robert Royal
no true TE they are all more or less H-backs...... Maybe Joe's cooking something up

Still Redskin so far the price the skins gave up for him is not showing up. Same with Brunell by the way.
Chris cooley is the only prototype tight end we got.ANT7088 wrote:1niksder wrote:The Redskins have started training him to play H-back, a hybrid tight end and fullback.

Looks like yall should have picked the other soldier Winslow.
Forey (6 feet 3, 265 pounds) to assume a starting role is no small achievement, and the coaches are thrilled to have landed him with the 81st overall pick. "We got exactly what we thought we got there," Gibbs said. "He's a real productive guy. If you get the ball to him, I think he runs good after the catch."
