You could then move down again...since there is such a debate about the difference between Harris/Wilfork/Starks...any one of those guys should be decent tackles. Same thing with Udeze/Will Smith.
So if the Skins go with D Line that means they would trade down. And trading down from the #5 overall pick to get a good but not great prospect does not have "Front Page" written on it as Snyder prefers.
The fact is that at #5 Sean Taylor will likely still be there. And the Skins should take him. All they need to do is write SEAN TAYLOR on their card, hand it to Paul Tagliabue, wait for the announcement, and call it a day (no more picks in day 1). They would not have to look back or 2nd guess.
But more importantly the Redskins would have a superstar in the making in the backfield for years to come. Some say Taylor is the next Ronnie Lott, or that Taylor make Roy Williams look average...we'll see.
What everyone must remember is that the DRAFT is for the FUTURE. And while Iffy Ohalete is decent he is not spectacular. Iffy Ohalete is also a RESTRICTED Free Agent, meaning next season he will be an UN-Restricted Free Agent. Which also means Safety needs to be addressed now if not next season anyway.
So the question is, would you rather have a 1-in-10 years Safety Sean Taylor....Or draft a good safety next year that might play like any other safety?
You've gotta factor in that the Skins might not have such a high first round pick for years to come...and you also have to factor in that in the last 2 years the NFC East has been filled with HI-Talent Tight Ends...Giants = Shockey, Eagles = LJ Smith, Cowboys = Jason Witten...
Yes...our 3 Division Rivals have all drafted high pick Tight Ends the last 2 seasons. Gibbs COULD draft Kellen Winslow and make the NFC East "even" in TE talent...but Gibbs doesn't use the TE that much and would only make it "even".
But if Gibbs drafts Sean Taylor then the super safety would counter the super Tight End's the Giants, Eagles, and Cowboys drafted...every division game would feature Sean Taylor shutting down Shockey, Smith, or Witten...while Lavar and Marcus fly around killing people.
Or...maybe we can get an average D Tackle and have the Tight Ends of the NFC East burn Iffy 8 times this year...then we can draft the "Next Sam Shade" in 2005 since we missed out on Taylor in 2004.
You know what my vote is....
