#1 Overall Defense
After 2 weeks, the Redskins are still at #1 in total defense and still #1 against the run. They slipped to #10 against the pass.

Being #1 doesn't mean a whole lot at this point in the season. Dallas has the #1 offense right now and no one really believes that they are an offensive juggernaut.
It has much more to do with the teams that each has played, Tampa and the Giants might have two of the worst offenses in the league.

I love that at least one of the sides of the ball is dominant.

Oh, I understand your point, but being #1 in any category only brings out the worst in some posters. (It ruined some decent Cowboys boards last year when the Carter loving trolls ran roughshod after an impressive MNF game and #1 offensive ranking).
I see terms thrown around like "dominant" "best defense in the league". Washington's D has played well, especially when compared to some of their previous incarnations, but looking at numbers this early really leaves a skewed outlook.
Take the D for what it is, improved over last season with the potential to be pretty good.

Curveball. Excellent points...and I, for one, don't talk a whole lot of trash about the state of our defense. I was just pointing out our position in the rankings....especially on run defense. Us Skins fans are used to bringing up the rear on run defense...so it's kinda nice, even after only 2 games, to see us among the top defensive teams in that regard.
As the weeks pan out, I am sure the Redskins rankings will slip....but, like you said, it is clear that this year's defensive squad is head and shoulders above previous years' squads.

Yes, and it is also clear that the defense isn't weak, as has been stated by other 'Boys fans who apparently didn't bother to watch the game or even look at the stats before proclaiming such.

I completely agree. If our D stays consistant and our offense quits making turnovers we'll be set.
I have travelled the net and found the Redskins promise land. This is, by far, the best site out there for Redskins/NFL News, Notes, Opinions, and so much more.

Common agreement - Yes you're defense is better then last year and previous years for awhile, but as far as stats...don't get to excited to fast. We have the #1 offense....

Your defense is improved no doubt, BUT do expect let downs. Expect one this Monday...yes I'm saying that as an optimistic Boys fan, but also our O has been frustrated by not getting into the endzone, while moving the ball at will. I expect some things to click Monday.

That is just your optimism speaking. You have no basis by which to state that the Cowboys will have any better luck scoring this week than in past weeks. If you aren't affraid of our defense, you should be. Just like I'm affraid of our offense...

I firmly believe that the only way the 'boys win this game is if the 'Skins hand it to them (like they handed the Giants the last game). If we come out and play Redskins football, you guys are toast (and you know it)!

You are also entitled to your optimism...that's why we play the game. I'm seriously not afraid to put our O against your D...I'll tell ya what does scare me is looking back on boys vs. skins tradition and seeing that wehn the boys have gone to the playoffs and the skins have sucked that the hogs always get up for the boys and visa versa...(all off the top of my head), but the year you guys won it all we sucked, but beat you twice...at that point we could care less about our record. That alone is what makes it such a great rivalry...gotta play the games.

I feel very good about this Defense. We have been dominating on the rushing yard and are forcing teams to pass.

Inside the Numbers... C.Portis analysis
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Portis has the barry sanders effect on his team... the majority of his runs are for low yardage totals, with a big run or 2 a game. not exactly what you want out of your RB. He does make some big runs but certianly not worht Champ Baily + a second rounder IMHO.
Game1:
3 or less yards: 20 rushes
4+ yards: 10 rushes
Game2:
3 or less yards: 13 rushes
4+ 7 rushes

66% of Portis' rushes have resulted in negative plays to a gain of 3 yards

la73hof, thanks for the advice, I'm pretty sure we will blitz often
Thanks for the breakdown on Portis as well. I've been meaning to do that myself, but was too lazy =P
I'm pretty damn happy with Portis so far. He's been thru 2 games in a brand new offense for the team, and has played pretty well. Your right, he does show Barry Sanders type moves, except for the running backwards thing...He's been very efficient in blocking and has even shown the desire to go out of his way more than most RBs to get to a defender. We've probably implemented about 20% of our offense so far and nobody is clicking yet. I can't wait to see how he performs the last half of the season, and especially next season.
I'm so bleeping happy with this trade I can't put it into words. Getting a franchise back who does everything well for a cancerous guy who was leaving anyway plus a 2nd round pick was the steal of the last ten years at least. Especially when you consider what such a great back means to Joe Gibbs offense. Everything comes from the run in Joe's offense, and we definitely got a guy who fits with Gibbs offense.

Death to the EGO! RIP 21
i like the defense overall .they are playin pretty well for the most part except for the giants game at times (missed tackles.
that second quarter was crazy-cause thats the only time the giants got all their points. still being down by 6 we were still in it at the time. 7 turnovers .
defense i do like their energy.
