The-Hogs.net Site Re-Build - 2025

Post by admin »

The-Hogs.net lives. Again.

I couldn't let my baby go. This site has been a passion of mine for almost 25 years now.

The original issue that took the site out late in 2023, grew out of an unfortunate issue. I typed it all out here but then deleted it. At the end of the day, the why is of little consequence. I dropped the ball a little I guess.

But I decided to put everything I could back online. I lost some chunks. It was more work than I anticipated. SO many things have changed on the internet since I started this site that it takes a re-build like this to realize the extent of it.

The new site is responsive and should perform well on desktop or mobile. The designer in me always wants to design for desktop, but I know that that's approaching dinosaur territory.

I used Wordpress and a very supported theme called Generate Press that I then heavily modified. That allowed me to (hopefully) keep all of this content safe and movable from now on. There are two "content hubs" - one for all of the History content and one for all of the Hogs content. These hubs are designed to help you find all of the rich exclusive content that lives in each one of those sections. I thought it was important to give users more than just drop down menus to find the exclusive content. There's new player profiles and new pages added throughout.

The blogs have not moved. You will see that I am still blogging. I haven't really stopped. I even posted blogs - albeit a little more sporadically - on various web spots throughout the layoff and I have transferred some of them to here to fill in the gaps. Sometimes it's just a Wallpaper on Wallpaper Wednesday, but I try to report on the big news items when I have time and inclination.

The resurgence in the team in 2024 certainly was a motivating factor as well.

The board was a different egg. Much more laborious to get it working. It seems to be right now. I am looking for poltergeists and please let me know if you find any. If anyone reads this that is. I didn't re-build it to try and re-capture the community. Those days have been and gone - and enjoyed by many. And that's why it was re-built, for the nostalgic appreciation of those days gone by.

The site's "successes" don't matter to me as much as they might to some. I feel very fortunate for the things that have already been afforded me. I have always been very proud of what the site is and what it has done. It has opened a lot of doors and paved many unforeseen paths. It has created life lasting friendships.

I look forward to continuing on the tradition.

Hail.
