The Giants took a prospect at #6 that they probably could have drafted in the 2nd round. No one was all that high on Daniel Jones.riggofan wrote:I love it. While the Giants are planning to have Daniel Jones back up Eli Manning, the Redskins will give Dwayne Haskins the chance to compete for the starting job right away. “I think you have to give him an opportunity without a doubt,” said Washington HC Jay Gruden.

Giants passed on Haskins. He laughed. Now he’s in the division.
Thought this one was funny:Burgundy&GoldForever wrote:The Giants took a prospect at #6 that they probably could have drafted in the 2nd round. No one was all that high on Daniel Jones.
I think it's even funnier they took him because he was coached by the same guy who coached Eli and Peyton. Like that's got anything to do with the ability to play the position. Hey, maybe he'll throw as many picks as Eli.riggofan wrote:Thought this one was funny:Burgundy&GoldForever wrote:The Giants took a prospect at #6 that they probably could have drafted in the 2nd round. I remember that too and I think he was totally mistaken. RG3 set us back a good 3-4 years but the roster has entirely turned over twice since then, including two starter-quality QBs we've gone through. Whatever issues we have today are unrelated to the 2012 trade.DEHog wrote:I don’t remember who said it but when we drafted RG he said if the Skins miss on him it would set the franchise back 10 years. Well here we are in year 7 and we are still trying to solve our QB position.
No, they're all related to the 1999 sale.Irn-Bru wrote:I remember that too and I think he was totally mistaken. We won't know what we have in these prospects for a while but it''s nice to not have the talking heads criticizing our every pick. I think I even read a few compliments of Dan Snyder.ferryrich wrote:I think I generally agree with those 'experts' reviews. It's a few years since we've gone into day 2 with me feeling so positive about what we've done on day 1. I'm trying to hold back from showering the praise as I'm still expecting something to go wrong! Either with those picks, or our picks tonight or just anything in general
New York Giants: Daniel Jones, QB, Duke (6th)
Truth be told, it would be fair to criticize all three of the Giants’ first-round picks. Clemson nose tackle Dexter Lawrence was a reach at No. 17, which is the first-rounder they obtained from the Cleveland Browns in the Odell Beckham Jr. trade. Georgia cornerback Deandre Baker is a good player, but in trading up to the 30th pick they had to give up two fourth-round selections. But the one that sticks out the most is Jones, at No. 6. The team probably could have gotten taken a top defensive player like Josh Allen or Ed Oliver and then selected Jones 17th overall — or made a modest trade back up to land him.
Where are you getting that? There isn't one thing I've read that said Haskins would still be on the board in the 2nd round. I've certainly seen nothing that grades him as a 4th round pick. Or even a 2nd round pick. I have seen grades that put him higher than Kyler Murray.Sonny9TD wrote:Well. Here is the real deal. We could have had Sweat at 15 and Haskins would still be on the board right now. If we wanted Haskins which i didn't but beside the point a deal could have been made today to move up in front of Denver for way less than spending a first round and two second rounders for the same people. Sweat is a great pick. Haskins was still a reach and is going to be no better than a 4th round QB is going to be. But this can't be proven until the season so for now here is hoping Case Keenum or Colt McCoy makes the Pro Bowl.
Who was going to draft him? I need to know.Sonny9TD wrote:Where are you getting that? There isn't one thing I've read that said Haskins would still be on the board in the 2nd round. Drew Lock stuck his foot in his mouth. He was also never graded as a top ten pick. Haskins was. You should read the writeup by Jerry Brewer. It's spot on.Burgundy&GoldForever wrote:Who was going to draft him? I need to know.Sonny9TD wrote:Where are you getting that? Answer: No one in the first round
How do i know? Ask Drew Lock who drafted him
They even thought about getting Sweat at 15 but Danny had a owner fit. Meddling azzhat.
There is absolutely no way to know that. You don't know what other teams would have done if different prospects were still on the board when they drafted.Sonny9TD wrote:Haskins would still be on the board even if Jerry Brewer was whispering in Jay Gruden's ear rubbing his head
Haskins would still be holding his phone at the bowling alley today. No one needed a QB after us in round 1. The only possible one would be New England and i still don't see them taking Haskins. Unless there was another Dan Snyder in the war room somewhere. There is only one Dan and he is calling the shots in DC.Burgundy&GoldForever wrote:There is absolutely no way to know that. You don't think the whole Cousins fiasco, signing Alex Smith last year, and drafting a QB in the first round this year isn't because RG was a failure?Irn-Bru wrote:I remember that too and I think he was totally mistaken. While I agree to point with you that Haskins may not be better then others, I don't think Haskins would have to the 2nd round,I think some team whole have traded up to get him. I could also see NE taking him...Sonny9TD wrote:Who was going to draft him? I need to know.

At least three teams after the Redskins were looking for future quarterbacks. The Broncos, Chargers, and Patriots. All three could put a rookie on the bench for a year or two. I'm just not seeing Haskins making it out of the first round based upon what we know, or what we think we know.DEHog wrote:While I agree to point with you that Haskins may not be better then others, I don't think Haskins would have to the 2nd round,I think some team whole have traded up to get him. Not likely Noah Fant was a Bronco no matter what. Chargers needed defense and got it. But even if they did Redskins could have had a QB just as good later. The only reason people are saying the Redskins did good was because they didn't trade up to get a player Danny wanted although they could have had in the 2nd. If any of those other teams wanted a QB Lock would have been drafted. None of them were waiting on Haskins like Danny was. The Skins let Danny take over and he basically told Jay Gruden to go get him some coffee.Burgundy&GoldForever wrote:At least three teams after the Redskins were looking for future quarterbacks. Damn straight. I don't care what anyone says or predicted where they were going. That are wrong all the time.. Danny blew this againDEHog wrote:^^^^ I can agree with that, if they liked Sweat they could have grabbed him at 15 and gotten Haskins (maybe) Lock or Finley in the 2nd/3rd round.
