Nope.

disrupted by weather

They weren't even in town that week. It wasn't a big deal.

I see a team that disrespected their Super Star QB all off season by dragging out the contract talks to the point of absurdity, playing their backup QB for the majority of the preseason games. I see a great QB who had what ... 24 attempts in the preseason, and missing most of training camp, and still having a bad taste in his mouth about how the organization treated him after having the best season in history? The Saints are an emotionally patched up team that can only overcome that due to the superior talent of Brees ... but Brees ain't God, and he's not infallible. He can't catch passes or run the ball ... so this is far from a team that could be considered firing on all cylinders right out of the gate.

He didn't miss any training camp. Not even a second. Its business everyone knows that. It has had no impact whatsoever. You're definitely reaching there.

If the Redskins win it won't be because of off the field distractions or Sean Payton or any other nonsense. It will be because they out played the Saints on this Sunday. It will be because they got pressure and created turnovers. Period.

I am quite worried about our safety situation especially with Drew Brees over there. I'm sure tho when we signed both Jackson and Merriweather the coaches prepared for the possibility that Jackson would screw things up and that Merriweather might not even fit in the scheme properly (or injuries obviously) then I'm sure they've been practicing many alternatives and not just this week but all TC. I know we probably wont totally shut em down but I hope that we can get the best match ups possible with our secondary. With this said I wonder if we will go to a 3-3-5 type D at times to get a little more pass coverage over there especially if we end up shutting down any run game they try.

Never a massive plus for a defense to change coordinators and systems, particularly in the environment facing the Saints off season. Greg Williams is an excellent defensive coach, but can't actually play himself. So there were weaknesses in the Saints defense, and those will likely be magnified.

Smirk wrote:... suspended defensive players ...Nope.

Suspended players YEP ... reinstated at the 11th hour will likely inject even more confusion as to who is activated and what roster moves might be made at the last minute after the week's practice is finished. ANOTHER distraction.

Being that I don't actually watch NO pre season games, I just looked at the stats and saw a LOT of Chase Daniel stats, and very little of Brees. In any case ... the "just business" was not Brees attitude before the contract got done. And no matter what people say after a testy contract dispute ... hard feelings don't just heal overnight. They may be pushed off to the side of one's mind .. but they are there for a while.

Smirk wrote:If the Redskins win it won't be because of off the field distractions or Sean Payton or any other nonsense. It will be because they out played the Saints on this Sunday. It will be because they got pressure and created turnovers. Period.

Of course, that could be said of most any game. Nevertheless, what makes those things happen on Sundays is generally preparation and game planning during the week and throughout training camp and preseason. And I'd say that NO had more than their fair share of distractions, while the Redskins were steadily improving.

Hopefully, the Saints will believe what everyone else seems to believe ... that Drew Brees can simply lay his jock on the 50 yard line and the scoreboard will light up like 4th of July, and they'll win 62-10. If karma has it's way, Brees might not make it to the 4th QT.

Well the Saints won a Super Bowl in year one of a new defensive system. And Gregg Williams might be the most overrated coach ever. He didn't adjust, didn't teach, and made terrible game calls. I was never a fan, even in year one. And "the environment facing the saints" is completely overblown. Completely. Its been business as usual. Even beat writers like Larry Holder, who Sean Payton calls "NFL...Negative F'ing Larry", have said they've seen no difference whatsoever.

Suspended players YEP ... reinstated at the 11th hour will likely inject even more confusion as to who is activated and what roster moves might be made at the last minute after the week's practice is finished. ANOTHER distraction.

Sigh. Once again. No. There was only ONE Saints player suspended that is a starter and only TWO overall. Vilma would be on the PUP right now anyway...he's still hurt. And they replaced him with not one but two better players.

They are missing a decent DE that isn't really a sack artist. Not really a big deal.

Brees never plays much in preseason. I would say it was par for the course. And there aren't hard feelings. He got the largest contract ever. He was WEARING SAINTS GEAR during the negotiations and his private workouts. It wasn't a big deal.

thats not the reason why nobody (especially the majority of REDSKIN fans) gives them no chance. the reason "everyone" gives them no chance is because the redskins are a last place team every year who are trying to get better and the Saints are already a great team. Thats why.

But I see a team missing their head coach ... a new defensive coordinator ... suspended defensive players ... disrupted by weather ... detracted by controversy and carrying a little bit of bad karma.

they can miss all that stuff and it doesnt make a difference. theyre good even great, redskins are bad. deal with it.

yeah, i get it. you're "seeing" everything but what goes on ON the football field. that's why your lost on this.

The Redskin defense ... particularly the front 7 which was the strength of the team last year,

the strength of the team......talk about overHYPED. ANYTHING THAT WAS AVERAGE OR MEDIOCRE would have been the "STRENGTH" of the redskins of 2011 or 2010 or 2009 or 2008 or 2006 or 2003 or 2002 or 2001 or 2000.

EVERY team in the redskins division last year had one guy who had more sacks (giants = tie) than that duo orakpo and kerrigan had COMBINED (which is a point about perspective. what might be great to you cuz their your heroes, is ordinary to others because they're better than you)

they can rotate in as many bodies as they want, the redskins secondary will be lit up like a christmas tree.

I see a very close game that could go either way, and might be decided by RG3's success in the red zone. You cannot beat the saints kicking field goals ... scoring TD's is a must.

you spent an entire post not paying a single compliment to new orleans, picking out stupid unrelated garbage like the hurricane down there or brees' contract and now you say this? Fraud.

If we play the Saints 16 times we go 4-12.

Fortunately we play just once. We have a chance but we should expect a loss while cheering for a win. I expect to be pissed off by at least a few of ...

dropped pick
big missed tackle
a WR running free behind our D
incomplete bomb when we need a yard
blocked place kick
dropped pass

We at least have to make them earn it.

Recipe: no pissers from the list above, 150+ rushing, score when we cross midfield, TDs when we cross the 25, pressure Brees, no turnovers

I'd like to blitz 2 guys randomly and jump a pattern early. Go for a pick and get a lead.

Time to chill the Belgians in the cellar.

Buddy the whole NFC East was in the top 10 in sacks last year so while the skins might not have been the best they were still damn good however they are gonna need elite pass rush on Sunday to help the secondary especially the safeties.

So the suspended Saints players have had their suspensions overturned and can play tomorrow.

Now they will most likely be re-suspended next week.

So to recap, these players were suspended, but with a little less than 48-hours before game time they have been allowed to play the Redskins, and then they will be suspended again.

I'm sorry, but that is crap.

Of the 4 players suspended, only 2 are Saints - of those 2 only Smith is likely to see any playing time - if any

Vilma would not have been on the field much, if at all, anyway - he has not been a starting LB for a while AND will most likely not play

big psychological lift though - the others like Payton et al are not coming back

this is ONLY a clarification - the judge did NOT overturn the penalties

Godahell & his lawyers will come back with something but .....
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

which is the point. those teams do have an elite pass rush where the redskins do not. they have good players at certain spots. orakpo is good. Kerrigan is good. neither are great. neither are game changers.

it's the difference between the haves and the have nots in the NFL. it's the difference between 6-10 and 10-6 teams. you need some great players. some game changers.

IMO the redskins don't have a single player that is. London Fletcher is still their best player and he's in his last year or two and we'll see if there's any drop off there. those two other guys mostly collect coverage sacks.

the best advise I can give is they should have an extra defensive back out there at all times, even in 2 wr sets, drop all 3 linebackers, line their safties deep down the field and double Graham.

force the saints to run which in turn forces them to play the game that the redskins have their only chance in.

Just wondering...You consider Dallas elite with 42 sacks and the skins good with 41?????? Ware is excellent but the next(Spencer) has just six while the skins have 4 guys with at least 5.5.(Yes I know not elite but still more consistent and rounded) Orakpo didn't have the best year last year but did have 11 the year before and is capable of 15+ and Kerrigan(who had a GREAT year as a rookie) has already shown he has the potential to be elite with 4 forced fumbles that mostly were recovered by the other team unfortunately

Also a good pass rush isn't defined by just sacks but also QB hurries and hits and disrupting the pocket which works well against a team like the giants but can actually make a running QB like Vick and some cases Romo better since they play better with a moving pocket

U must not have read this whole thread cuz I posted yesterday how worried I am about the safeties and that maybe we should go to a 3-3-5 to see how that works.

When it comes to opening day of any season, nobody really has enough information to make good predictions.

All you can do is make some educated guesses. And one of those is that the Saints will most likely have a very strong offense again. But will the Saint's offense beat the Redskin defense enough to overcome the Redskin's offensive production against the Saint's defense? That's impossible to predict because we just don't know how well or how poorly RG3 will perform in his first real game.

I expect the Redskin defense to keep the Saints under 30 points. 24-27 points is something the Saints can do against almost anyone. Can the Redskin offense score 27 or more points? Time will tell. But if RG3 can generate 27 or more points, the Redskins can win. If he can't, the Redskins will lose.

If the Redskin defense can keep NO to less than 24 points, the Redskins have a great chance of winning.

27-24, Redskins win, or 31-24, Saints. Could go either way.

Well, i agree that this is the beginning of a new season, so in some ways all bets are off until we get a better feel for how each squad looks this season. That said, think between the aint's and the skin's, there are far more uncertainties with our team.....especially on offense.

It is a brutal game to start the rgiii era. While i believe other defenses are better than the aint's, as long as their offense has brees they are going to be potent. We r going to have to score more than 10 or 17 points imho. That is really what i am anxious to see.....has our offense improved with all of the skill position additions.

So....which would u prefer tomorrow...get the ball first or be on defense first? I would want us to receive first, see if we could sustain a drive and maybe get some points on the board first.
A winning effort begins with preparation.
Failures are expected by losers, ignored by winners.
