Well... so much for Minnifield
RotoworldChase Minnifield suffered a setback in his surgically repaired knee late in the offseason.
The Redskins announced that the once-promising undrafted rookie had been waived/injured.
Minnifield recently had another "procedure" performed on his knee. "He's not going to be physically able to come back during the season," said Minnifield's agent. "He's going to be out a year." Considering the severity of the injury, Minnifield should clear waivers to land on injured reserve.
My guess is they don't want him to count against the 90 and it is unlikely a team will claim him like the Pats did with TE Jake Ballard.yupchagee wrote:Is there any reason why we couldn't have moved him directly to IR?
Ballard was a proven vet, so team like the Pats would be willing to risk a training camp slot and Belichick is the only coach that doesn't know about the "unwritten rule.""If a player's on waivers, he's on waivers," Belichick said at his Wednesday press conference in Foxborough, Mass. "Ours or anybody else's. I don't know what 'unwrittens' you're talking about. Look, anytime you put a player on waivers, you know there's 31 teams that can take him. We all know that, there's no secrets about that."
So now we know why there was a change from PUP to potential IR.According to Brad Blank, Minnifield’s agent, the player reinjured his knee during either OTA’s or minicamp. He required another surgery that was performed by Dr. James Andrews recently in Birmingham. Blank was not specific about the procedure but he did say that it was not as serious as the microfracture.
Blank thinks that the new injury will knock Minnifield out for the season. “It could be less,” he said. “But I don’t think that the Redskins’ plan [for him to return to the field this year]. I [also] don’t think he’ll get claimed by another team.”
Actually they put him on the PUP list last week, reporting he had a set back, so it was already out there. Now they are simply moving him from the reserve PUP list to the IR (freeing up space on the 90 man camp roster). The plan was to move him to the Active PUP at some and planned to save a spot on the 53 man roster for him. That's the only change in plan and it's a old Joe Gibbs move with 2012 swag (unless he's claimed off waivers).Redskin in Canada wrote:This is only ONE story they wanted us to know until now.
OK let's take a look the starters.... who are they?Redskin in Canada wrote:That secondary has some serious question marks on the starters, let alone depth. I hope they work together well and they hold throughout the season without injuries. We might have to keep an eye on who else gets cut from other teams for depth.
I don't get that....Redskin in Canada wrote:That cap money taken away certainly does not help.
If an insult was the intention of this line, you know me well for a number of years, we can meet in smack ANY time you want.1niksder wrote:I've been wanting to discuss this for a minute but never got around to itI don't get that....Redskin in Canada wrote:That cap money taken away certainly does not help.
This might/WILL take a minute but....
OK... it hurts me to say this but that sounds like something Vinny would say to "the Danny"![]()
Yeah, sure. In fact the legal challenge by the Skins and Pukes to the cap penalty was all a joke really. The Mara Committee never really intended to hurt the Skins and even if it did try, it did not succeed. Sure ...The Redskins have never, EVER (ANYONE can point out where I'm wrong here) EVER had a problem with the salary cap until there was no salary cap. Even then they had to change the rules to put a cap into place two years after the fact.
You please explain why and how the lost cap money would not have served the Skins well, please? In what calculation and under what circumstances can cap money not give the potential to a team to use it if necessary to address positions of need?As far as the impact this year, it's like every other year only difference is they took space from the team and gave it to the other teams. The fact of the matter is the Redskins have never spent up to the cap ceiling and taking $18M from a team that for the first time could carryover unused space ($13,590,000)) wasn't all that punitive.
If you think they are hurting for money explain how and why they spent $7.5M in new money ($7M in cap space) for 2012 with cap space already on the books for DBs at the tune of more than twice the amount of new money they spent?
So, in your view, the cap penalty does not affect the Skins negatively in any way. This is your argument. Interestingly, that is not the argument made by the Skins on several legal and PR fronts. There were 29 teams that benefited from the Cap Penalties imposed on the the Skins, TtiT, and the Saints (didn't get any of our cap $, but didn't lose any of their own). As free agency slowed and teams started to focus on the draft, there were less than twenty teams with more cap space than the Redskins, had TtiT not lost $5M they would have made it a even 20, still that left ten teams with less space than the Skins (they were using some of the Redskins money and still came up with less). After the draft picks had been signed and the June 1st cuts and signings had come and gone the Redskins still have more space than almost half the teams in the league.
So, we should not expect the team to make any cut moves based on preserving cap space, right? Good luck with that. Here are some 2012 Cap facts as the "cap" pertains to the Skins.
FTR: I still believe the Redskins have and will always be oblivious of any NFL mandated cap
RGIII took up more cap space than any other guy drafted not named Andrew Luck, and was signed by the team that took a $18.55M cap reduction the night free agency started and was considered "the most active in the post-April 1 market"![]()
As your argument goes, we are shielded against next year's cap hit too. I am really eager to hear what Shanny and Bruce have to say about this if and when they speak about it in the future because their statements son far portray an image that the penalty over two seasons hurts the Skins without a doubt. Not only did they spend the money on guys coming into thier prime instead of spending money on guys for what they did in their prime, they look like they could have about $10M to carry over into 2013 to ofset the "cap penalty" that they'll face and know about a whole year from now.
What does Vinny, other than a veiled or not so weiled insult, have to do with an opinion that the cap penalty, in my view, hurts the chances of the Skins to add FAs players to address positions of need?If Vinny were in charge I would have not left Biadoa last week and stayed for the year (no streaming internet until Oct) but I came back, hoping to catch a few games this year.
Vinny is gone... RiC stop raining on my parade.

I am happy to have him next season.Chris Luva Luva wrote:http://www.realredskins.com/rich-tandle ... ns-ir.html
He cleared waivers and he's on our IR. Great news!
right on!The Hogster wrote:He will be just like having an additional draft pick when he's ready. This procedure takes a year to rehab. He had it in January. By next August, he should be ready to prove why he's worth making this team, and it will be an added bonus in that we got him for essentially nothing.
When a player goes on injured reserve, his full salary cap figure counts against his team's salary cap unless otherwise specified in the player's contract.cowboykillerzRED wrote:So the skins will still pay him if he clears waivers but at the practice squad pay grade right? Does that come out of our cap?
