I don't like this deal. I say we should have waited until after the season, franchise him (what 34 yr old quarterback going to hold out?) and either keep him for a year or if he doesn't progress this year trade him for picks.

Contract is probably backloaded but once again assuming there will be a salary cap in years to come, this move hurts our future even MORE.

We don't even know what the details of the deal is, we don't know if there will be a cap in the future nor do we know how much will count this year. I'm hearing it's a six-year, $89.2 million contract when you include the 2010 part of it and the $40 mil guaranteed is more like ten million and a bucket load of skill incentives. It appears this deal is nothing like the deals that Vinny use to hand out.


Vinny would have waited and used the tag which would have paid McNabb about $16 million next year.

True. But with athletes you never know how well they've handled their money. Brunell, at the age of 40, is jumping from team to team because he made bad investments and now has no money. Plus, there really aren't that many places for him to go at this point.

They paid McNabb $3.75 million in 2010 for the right to pay him $12.5 million in 2011 and control his rights. If the Redskins cut him after this season or trade him, they are only on the hook for the $3.75 million.

There was no point in trading for McNabb if they didn't plan on getting him a deal like this. Especially after this team has bought into McNabb as a player and especially as their leader.

It all depends on whether or not they pay McNabb the $10 million option bonus this off season. If they do, it would trigger the rest of the contract and make Washington liable for McNabb's $2.5 million base salary in 2011. After that it's really a bunch of one year deals, with McNabb locked in and the Redskins all the options
